With the new technologies on the Banknotes I have found a drop in the grade of note delivered from Bankmachines from UNC or almost to Fine or less.
I was wondering if anyone had some tips on which banks generally had new money ( bricks) or which types of bank machines delivered new bills.
I am in Nova Scotia and I generally use TD. In branch they have told me they never or rarely recieve new money. Their machines here spit out only worn bills.
Prior to the upgraded journey $10s and and the Journey $20s , I found Scotia Bank machine very good for new $10s and $20s.
If someone is nice and has access to new notes let me know if you can help out.
I typically like getting a minimum of each signature. But I do aspire to get several (2-5) sequential from each prefix.

Brand new notes are wherever you find them. That's about as helpful as I can be. ::) People working in the distribution system might know where and when new bricks go out, but that's about it.

Personaly I have found the Bank of Montreal to have nicer notes, especially if you're a senior or ask nicely for them. Casinos are usually a good bet too.

I'm also looking for the Macklem/Carney signatures in $5's, $20's, & $50's.If anyone has any,please email me@ vancouver_vaults@shaw.ca.

Personally I have only seen so far $50 in Macklem/Carney. Has anyone noted or seen in other Denominations ?

I've seen a single $5 and $20 with M/C signatures, but lots of $50s.

I've got one $20.00 and lots of $50.00's but I haven't seen a $5.00.

mmars has it right. It really is hit and miss.
Whenever a new issue is released, the Scotiabank main commercial branch in downtown Vancouver has always had them ready for me on the first day of issue. At other times, the branch may or may not have brand new notes available. My credit union never has new notes; they claim that they get all of their cash from customer deposits only.
I believe that any chartered bank has the ability to order new notes from Bank of Canada regional offices. Whether or not branch staff are aware of this or not, or if they are willing to do it for you even if they are, is highly variable.

Keep an eye out at the ATM. If you take out $100 and its 5 crisp 20's in sequence, more often than not the ATM is fully loaded with brand new bills.

You can request from your bank but most will charge a fee - around $15

Be careful about doing multiple withdrawals or frequent withdrawals at bank machines. This could get your account red flagged, and that could result in as little as a security warning (a nuisance) or as much as having your accounts closed and being told to take your money some place else. :-[ I speak from experience.

Also... put in an overwhelming amount of deposits into the ATM where you actually fill the depository and the machine puts itself out of service....this is a NO NO as well...and I too can speak from experience :-[

I think the easiest way to get new notes in good shape is to get a wife that works in a bank.

Now's the best time to get new crisp notes because Chinese New Year is coming up (23rd), Most branches that have Asian clientele have new notes right now.

Business owners have a good chance of getting new bills when they order money from their banks. I have found that it also depends on the denom of the bills. 10's seems very hard to find new UNC. 100's, 50's, 20's and 5's come into my workplace pretty regularily in UNC bundles. I did find a few weeks ago a new bundle of FDT $10's Journeys. I was pretty amazed to see them especially since the Polymers have been out for awhile. I managed to scoop up 20 of them ;)

For American bills "The Currency Exchange" seems to get crisp bills. Get to know a staff person their and exchange older notes for new bills.

Get to know a staff person
Although this is an old post (started in 2011) its an age old question for collectors of paper money: how to get the best notes possible?
It really helps to get to know someone at your bank, currency exchange, or wherever it is you go to get your notes. If you want UNC notes you have to ask: and even then- that doesn't guarantee you'll get 'em. I have asked for new notes (when ordering bricks) several times and I could still get circulated notes (maybe about 30% of the time) so you've got to be super patient and try to be as charming as possible. Bank tellers don't get your hobby (PERIOD). They don't understand your desire for the perfect note. They see a request for 1000 notes and they just try to fill it (the last thing they would consider is if the notes are new or not). Or: your pristine UNC notes are sitting there for you & another teller starts to poach your stack (use them up for other customer requests) or dump them into the ATM, etc. There are so many factors that can come into play.
The general protocol
1) get to know as many staff (tellers/manager) as you can. This will increase the odds of someone willing to help you out
2) give him/her fair warning (ask at least a few days in advance).
3) I have found it useful to be transparent (explain its your hobby! You're not laundering money LOL)
4) trade cash for the notes (don't withdraw the amount) & be ready to count the cash in a separate area. If the staff is new to this- suggest this in a friendly way.
5) be prepared with gym bag or some such container to conceal your stash (so you don't draw attention to yourself)
6) don't get uptight if they can't deliver (make it another convenient date/ie not a Friday or busy time)
Now I have not mentioned ways to obtain small amounts of UNC notes because this can be even more challenging since most small amounts are arbitrary withdrawals (coming out of cash-dispensing machines). Even when the teller goes to a central teller who controls the cash- he/she may have to dole out the money in a sequential (tracked) way and cannot just give out nice UNC notes (b/c you want them). So I consider this endeavour far more challenging.
