Another G/R test note has shown up.  It is G/R 5318626 which falls into the middle range of test notes between 5280000 to 5367999.  The other two G/R test notes in private hands fall in the lower range  of 0000001 to 0079999.  Apparently the Bank of Canada Currency Museum has one but the serial number is not known.

I've been informed by a reliable source that the single G/R test note in the National Currency Collection is G/R 5280001.

So the four known G/R test notes are:

G/R 0058107
G/R 0067995
G/R 5280001
G/R 5318626

Here are better scans of the recently discovered G/R test note:

http://tinyurl.com/zpyv6
http://tinyurl.com/k2r8o

You will note that the back of the note has a date written in the margin.  19 Dec 64

As part of the test protocol,  I wonder if a bank official recorded the date that the note was removed from circulation and wrote this date on the back of the note.   If this is the case, then I wonder how the note then re-entered circulation?

Can I ask where you got the note, what price was paid for it, and where it currently resides (ie: city/prov)?

Thanks!

I was browsing through some old CPMS newsletters and on Pg 114 of Vol 7 #4 1999 I found something interesting....

The piece lists the known ranges of G/R test notes as follows:

G/R 0000001 - 0079999
G/R 5280000 - 5359999
G/R 5360000 - 5367999
G/R 5400001 - 5480000

Most of the listings I have seen as well as the listing in the catalogue for the
last number of years stated the ranges as follows:

G/R 0000001 - 0079999
G/R 5280000 - 5367999
G/R 5400001 - 5480000

So this has made me curious......   Is there any reason that the
1999 listing broke the middle range of G/R test notes into two distinct groups?

Thanks for any insight.
