There is a thin line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'.

I like the portrait style on the note. Would be interested in grabbing a few UNC's and a RADAR note when they come out.

Nice! Where did you go to see it in person?

Did they mention a release date? The press releases aren't any more specific than "late 2018".

Thanks for posting this, I have been waiting to see an actual note. Yes, it is odd to see the X letter. I doubt these are replacements, it is more likely X is used for regular notes now. In any case, these notes will be all over eBay being sold as replacements.

I was also expecting prefixes FT* and FF*, not CD*.

Actually i was expecting to see CD*. This would have been the continuation from the 2017 series (CDA-CDF). As for CDX, not sure but probably another prefix used only as internal test similar to JHS.

The BoC is becoming known for hiding an easter egg in its new note websites and they didn't disappoint this time.

Repeatedly click the "spin" button and it will launch a Space Invaders type of old-school video game called Inflation Busters.

Did they mention a release date?

The release date is embedded in all the babble - Late 2018.

From the way all the marketing around the unveiling has been handled it looks like the timing of this event is  mostly a political move:

Budget 2018 - Gender equality and diversity
March 8 - International Women's Day

It is possible that they have still to complete all the testing and the CDX prefix may be a short run prefix for internal purposes only.

In the video of the announcement you clearly see an awkward moment when Wanda Robson (Viola Desmond's sister) asks to keep the bill Bill Morneau had given her at the time of unveiling. Immediately thereafter Bill Morneau is seen making a comment that he was supposed to have returned all the bills to the Bank Staff after the ceremony but maybe Wanda could keep hers.

It would be interesting to see if Wanda Robson was able to keep that bill.

Thank you for sharing this. There are some very interesting design decisions that are evident.

They have continued with what appears to be a full width window along with the metallic stripe.

It appears that they are continuing with the design shift they did with the counters on the face and back with the Canada-150 note.

They have continued with the tactile feature. But are my eyes playing tricks or is the tactile feature reversed. Up until now the raised portion of the tactile feature was on the portrait side (face). Now the raised portion appears to be on the prefix side (back). Of course this would not matter to the a visually impaired person but most certainly it would be noticed by a visually non-impaired person.

It does not look like they have used the magnetic ink feature in this note. Maybe that was the problematic element in Canada-150 which may have caused gaps on those prefixes.

But it seems like they may be back with the frosted maple leaf window.

And while everyone is talking about the special person who is on this note, I think this is the first time I see a recognizable building which is not part of the Parliament Buildings on the bank notes. I think this is the first time the Bank of Canada has given some weight to our urban landscape in such a significant way.

The note in the photo has the same serial number as in a video of the event released by The Canadian Press and carried by media outlets.
