Title: AXA & EXA $1 Test Notes
Post by: jonathan on January 21, 2005, 10:16:40 pm
Hi, all.

I have an interesting question to ask any of ye involving the 1973 $1 test notes with prefixes AXA and EXA.

The question of the hour is...

Approximately how many AXA and EXA $1's have been printed and released for circulation back then?

      -Jonathan-  ;)

Sorry, Brent.  I don't own one.  :-[

I will go to my nearest library in the future and look it up...  ;)

I highly recommend that you pick one up from a coin store, or if that's not possible, buy one online.  They're about $15-$20 and it is an INVALUABLE resource for Canadian Government Paper Money.

Get yourself a copy.  You'll continually thank yourself.

AXA  approx 400,000 range 0001082 - 1305299
EXA  approx 600,000 range 1104720 - 1692242
(from 2002 edition.... my 2005 edition is at home)

Same numbers in the 2005 catalog.  :)

The AXA & EXA seem to be difficult to find in UNC

I've got an AXA note in Choice UNC (I don't use Gem unc... choice to me is perfect).

Jonathan, I find it hard to believe that you, with nearly 600 posts on this papermoney forum and you don't own a current Charlton Catalogue  :o

I have 1 of each in choice, but it took me 3 years of searching.  :P
I would be curious to know how many other forum members have them, and their ranges.  8)

I guess I've been kind of busy holding my prefixes, that I don't have time to purchase a new Charlton Catalogue - I enjoy my serial numbers too much.  ;D

As for now, the serial numbers on the Canadian banknotes I currently have are "oldies but goodies."  ;D  (not necessarily "old" banknotes)

I cannot wait until the new upgraded tens are released...  ::)

Later!

I have both AXA and EXA in my collection. Both are only in VF condition. I do have a $2 1974 RS note that is in almost perfect condition and i would consider it to be UNC but there is a very very faint fold in one of the upper corners... its really hard to see. But apperently almost all test notes have been handled with at least once therefore trying to obtain a perfectly UNC test note is extremely hard.

Jonathan, if you are 16 years of age or under, you may be able to get a Charlton for free. If I remember correctly, an old thread made such a claim. The gentle man to contact I believe is RSCoins.
Good Luck,
