I have been wondering about the rarity of BTV short run and changeover. We know of 3 confirmed ranges . I know there is suspected regular ranges also. Can anyone shed some light on this.
cheers

3 Confirmed ranges ???
According to Gilles Pomerleau's Jan/2010 list i see only 2 ranges. Sheet replacement 0.120-0.160 and SNR 0,080 and 0.086
What would be the third range?

you are correct. OOps forgot to open my eyes. thanks for clarification.

Hey PB
I know that i have looked around allot and tried to see if i could possible get a guesstimate together. From what I've been able to gather is from the low estimate to the high estimate would be 2X more. We can see how many have been entered so that's a good start. The other thing is since everyone (myself included) were looking threw a ton of $10 trying to find the BTT/BTU error i haven't personally found any in circulation. I did find 4 BTV SNR (GP/2010) and i went threw allot of bricks to find them. Below is my Brick info.
Date September 24, 2009
FP/BP 63/68
Prefix BTU
Number 7158000 SNR (BTV)
Start 000-135
Insert 136-136 0,082,833
137-310
Insert 311-311 0,082,211
End 312-999
Date September 30, 2009
FP/BP 91/82
Prefix BTU
Number 8313000 SNR (BTV)
Start 000-552
Insert 553-554 0,080,114-115
End 555-999
Date October 13, 2009
FP/BP 72/61
Prefix BTU
Number 8340000 None
Start 000-999
Nothing
And Oct 13 was the last time i received a brick that could possibly contain BTV notes.
My personal opinion is that this a tough note but time will tell. I did think a brick could have existed (just speculation not fact) but i don't believe that to be the case but time will tell.
If anybody has anything to add i think we would love to hear about it.
FWIW

MG

I made numerous withdrawals (3 - 4000 used $10 notes) over the course of the summer- hoping to find a number of BTV's :'(
I found one EF-AU BTV note in the middle of August :) and entered it into the data base here (it was a sheet replacement).
IMO:
My suspicion is that the BTV's were stopped short since they're the last of the Jenkins/Dodge signature. I would not be surprised if there was a very limited # that were released as either sheet replacement or regular and we all know that as a SNR -there would be very few released that way. They most likely went out like the 2003 BEK. I would agree with MG- looking to be a very "tough note" to find.
However, we do not know if there are any hoards, & it will be unlikely whether we know this for a while.

A quick check of the SNDB high-lows shows that no BTV notes under 0040000 are recorded. That's a whole ream (40 bricks) that could and probably still is somewhere waiting to be released.

Hey
I thought that since things are little slow and many of us have had very little to cheer about other than a ton of old prefixes i've posted a BTV set. I was fortunate enough to have found the SNR ( brick info in this thread) and some much appreciated help from some of you.
Hope you enjoy it!

I found a BTV in circulation today..... nothing special about it besides being a BTV (1st one I have encountered).
Well that might be a slight lie..... was going through about 20 $10 notes and first saw BTV. My first response was OMG FINALLY I have a BTV! Then I started to read the full serial.... BTV...009...8...6.....0.........7 AWE COME ON!!! (@#^#($*@^#$@#$&)!%@$)!@$& >:(

Don't sweat it too much Wizard, If this prediction turns out to be correct you still have a chance of getting yourself a full brick ;)

Received a nice strong VF BTV0098946 as a single bill from grocery change and nearly fell over in shock ;D (a good shock though!)
-
Looks like these notes are going to be a rarity! Only 190,000 printed (inserts/Non inserts) with 2007. I have yet to find one. :(
-
Out of curiosity has anybody been lucky enough to find any more BTV in circulation or bricks ???

I think I have found three in circulation. The last one was about a month ago.

Were they the sheet replacement, snr, or regular issue note?

Regular issue

How worn were the notes?

How worn were the notes?
They were all relatively crisp, but still used & mistreated. Not the greatest condition for collecting, but they obviously had not been out much.

Hi,
I think I found the higher BTV in EF condition:BTV 0189516 fp:74 bp:56

Please email me a scan so I can mark it as confirmed in the SNDB. Thanks!

Was in a car accident yesterday and the impact shot out a BTV note from some unknown compartment of my car. It was the third BTV note I ever found, at TD bank, many months ago. I searched and searched and searched to no avail.
But, now that my car is written off, I have the note!! Yay!!
It's a bittersweet victory.
Serial number is: 0041017 BTV
Same as other notes: from circulation, decent, but circulated. I think I got this before the SNDB was even up and running, or just at the very start.

Didn't someone else recently find a 37 $100 in a used car...
Maybe I better start to spend more time at the auto wreckers....never know what I will find ;D

I found one in circulation a couple of weeks ago. BTV 0129400. I had happened to read through some threads here in the forum the previous day...otherwise I never would have known to look for the prefix.
-
Found another this week - BTV 0101188. Are these notes still desireable? This one isn't in very good condition, but I held onto it just the same.

It all depends on the note's eye-appeal which really does boil down to it's condition.
In Reply #9 of this thread, I wrote that I found one in strong VF. This means the note has 3-5 light folds and a few minor wrinkles so that it cannot be classified as an EF (extra fine) with only 2 light folds. However, there are no distracting marks on the note, no wear of the design, no edge tears, strong edges, and decent corners. The integrity of the paper/cotton fibres make it crisp (with good embossing) to the feel. Therefore- the way this note shows (it's eye appeal) would likely make it somewhat valued by a collector and therefore worth a premium above face.
It appears as if the BTV's are pretty uncommon and hard to get so your note MAY BE still be a "keeper" no matter how poor the condition is. No notes in the lower # range have been reported so it's possible that less were printed then previously expected. It is still too early to determine how many are out there, and as you've just proven by this post, they can still be plucked out of circulation (though it is a rare find!) If your note has a lot of edge tears, pen marks, or missing design on deep creasing, then I cannot be overly encouraging.
But, by the same token, even the UNC note has had a pretty high profile among the collecting community which means everyone has been on the look-out for one. If most collectors found one (or bought 1 just as it was released), and have a nice one in their collection, than the note's inherent value will be undermined since the demand will be low to obtain one (esp in lower grades).
This has happened before. For example, the Knight/Theissen FDZ had 0.2M more notes printed than it's Knight/Dodge "sister" signature change-over. Despite this- the earlier note became much more valuable since everyone was prepared to collect the latter. Only 600,000 (K/T) and 400,000 (K/D) notes of this prefix were printed, yet a lot of collectors ended up having them in higher grades. Lower graded K/D FDZ notes are tough sell.
I don't know if this will be the case with the BTV since only time will tell. i suspect that certain number ranges will be more sought after than others.
-
BTV notes are scarce enough to be collectible in any grade except the lowest (i.e. a note with pieces missing would not get any offers I suspect).
I agree with walk's comments that a sudden discovery of runs of Unc BTV notes would drag the market down. That's just more proof that Unc notes determine the value of notes in all grades. I would still think, though, that even if someone discovered a bundle of Unc BTVs, VG and Fine examples would get more than face value. So hang on to any BTVs you get. It's just a $10 investment. Can't buy much gold with that.
-
Good to know. I'll continue to keep my eyes open for them.
-
I have a BTV note in EF condition, how much would it be worth? I also had a few more, but two of them had rips in the edges and the other two were very circulated in the 90,000 range, but I spent those. The only one worth keeping was the EF.
-
I'm quite supportive of anyone that wants to put their BTVs back into circulation. ^-^

Found in deposit: BTV 0046837 in EF and BTV 0084691 in VF
