Hello everybody
I don't recall seeing any post on Thiessen & Crow AUG, AUH, or AUJ before. I'm curious on what preople think of these notes, has anybody seen any of these note before for sale ?? I have a low grade AUJ T & C & have seen 2 other AUJ's for sale, & also 1 AUH for sale. Have not seen an AUG for sale, as the catalogue say's there's only one known. My question is has anybody seen or owned any of these notes before. They gotta be out there some where. What are your thought on this note ?? Hope to see your comments on this subject. ???

The AU_ series, one of my favorite topics.
A little known fact is the serial number for the AUG T/C
at 8922714. I have C/B 8645237 and 8940182 leaving 295945 between the two. I sure would like to see numbers to narrow the range if anyone has them.
I know 2 AUH numbers in T/C, 5169778 & 5656597. Now an interesting fact about the C/B notes is ser# 5274907 which falls right in between the two numbers i have for T/C. My highest bottom number C/B is 5046404 and lowest top number is 5859831. That leaves the range of the crossovers to be less than 813427 notes. May we assume that 40000 notes C/B were in the middle? May we assume that there were at least 2 groups of 40000 T/C notes?Usualy notes are printed 40000 in a stack. But were these annomolies single sheets or compleate printing blocks? The numbers I have for AUJ (below) MAY indicate 20000 notes to a printing stack. I did have another T/C AUH number recorded from an aution sale but have misplaced it sorry.
AUJ I have C/B low series high number at 9051852. T/C I have a low # 9360491 and a high # at 9378750, 18259 appart. Then there is a high C/B series with the only # i know at 9769703. My belief would be that the high series C/B note would make its own rarety, I have seen one other note in the high series but do not have the number.
I am realy interested in knowing any numbers in these series, even if they are not close. This is so that if another important note surfaces that is out of the range, we will be that much closer to knowing what realy happened.
I will post what i have the rest of the way up to AUN at a later date. AUK is realy exciteing. I dont want to get this post too long and put you all to sleep ;}

The Dec. 2001 issue of the CPMS newsletter covered this issue in depth. This is also one of my favorite topics, although somewhat frustrating at times. There does seem to be a high level of interest in this area though. Recent notes offered on eBay from this changeover for example have been selling at multiples of current catalogue values. And that is for the more common signatures, not the rare ones.
Series AUJ C/B I have AUJ9407249. I would like to post a scan of this note but it was scanned with other notes in this series. The file size is close to 3 meg: not a chance with a 75KB limit. If you're interested in a scan send me your e-mail and I'll mail it to you.
I have the following notes from this changeover for those interested.
Edited: See H/L list - BWJM
Its a secondary collection that grows in spits and spurts, as I have other primary goals.

hi, all
indeed the switching of signatures in the $2 AU series is one of the most interesting topics in modern canadian papermoney. (It seems so long ago ) unfortunately, i have not come across the rare ones, like AUG,AUH, AUJ, AUK. In fact the only ones that i have a few unc are AUL, AUM, T/C. i do have quite a few non-unc in both signatures,(again, in AUL, AUM, AUN) so if any of you need any info i would try my best to provide. i wonder Paul would be kind enough establish a section on $2 bird ?
cheers
-
I have an UNC pair of AUM. The low # is T-C and the high is C-B. Notice the spacing between the A-U-M.
-
For the time being, I've started a Birds $2 AU_ H/L list in the Bank of Canada Notes forum.
I've also populated this list with the numbers posted so far to this thread.
If you have any other numbers to add, please reply to this thread and I or another moderator will add to the list.
Because this is such a wacky couple of prefixes, I suppose that listing all numbers and signatures in order would be best.
-
My list is fairly extensive.
Do you have a prefered format for me to post the numbers?
ie: numerical order, by signature?
Would a word document work better? Or some other format?
Got enuff bandwidth? ;}
Ron
-
I have the following UNC notes to add: :D
[edited: see H/L list - BWJM]
I have several more in circulated condition. I'll have to check the serial numbers to see if I have any higher or lower numbers.
-
This is a great idea. Maybe as a group we can add to what is known about this changeover. Three more notes to add to this list.
AUJ7179530 and 31 C/B
AUK5321542 T/C
Gary

This is what i have up to AUJ. I'm working on the rest.

Rarenote. Can you please check the signatures on the AUJ notes notes you reported in the 936 and 937 range. AUJ 9378750 C/B has been listed as a T/C note in the CPMS journal. It had been previously assumed that AUJ9360000-9379999 were T/C signatures yet this doesn't match with your listing. This was based on 20000 notes or one ream of sheets.
Thanks
Gary

Sorry I had made a mistake on the post 4 notes posted as C/B were in fact T/C

Here is what i have for AUK
16 changes WOW!
!'s deleted by request ;}
[edited: see H/L list - BWJM]
-
No need to wonder where they all went... rarenote's got them! lol
-
OK, between a few of you people, we've got a ton of AU_ notes listed - great work so far!
Looks like the signatures are definitely well-distributed among AUK-AUN.
To those of you who have yet to get your serial numbers on the list, you can post to this thread or to a new thread in the Two Dollar Notes H/Ls forum or you can send them directly to me via email or PM.
Our objective is to see if we can't narrow down the changeovers a bit.
-
hello from calgary..
i am fairly new to the forum..have been following the AU_saga for awhile..does anyone have the dec 2001 cpms newsletter available.?
regards

Hello, some very good work here. Lamb and moneyman. Can you please check the signatures on some of the notes you posted as it is not consistant with previous research? If your listings are correct we have a previously undocumented changeover. The notes in question are:
AUN 7417189 Thiessen/Crow
AUN 7872462 Thiessen/Crow
AUN 7880429 Thiessen/Crow
These notes are thought to be C/B
Thanks
Gary
-
hi,
Late last night, I was flipping through the older Newsletters, and I came across an article by Lub Wojtiw in 2001 on the subject . It includes the major changeovers.
cheers
hi, Gary,
will check them when i get home.
-
For the benefit of recently-registered CPMS members (such as myself), can someone get that article in digital format and post it please?
Thanks!
PBW: Huummm, I'll check with the CPMS first before I do that.
-
Gary,
I have checked out the note in question AUN7417189 . The signatures are indeed THIESSEN-CROW ;D ::)
-
hi, all
I also have checked.
AUN7872462 & AUN7880429 are also Thie/Crow. May be that is the reason i keep them. In fact, according to my own record, i did have a AUN7759xxx and a AUN7769xxx and they are also Thie/Crow. (But I spent them !)
I hope Paul could ask CPMS for permission to post the article, or at least the data.

Thanks rarenote for adding a bunch more AUL, AUM and AUN notes to our growing list!

I thought I would also add my six notes to the knowledge base. They are as follows: AUH 1376275 C/B, AUK 4700828 C/B, AUK 6630264 T/C, AUL 0461526 C/B, AUL 5180371 T/C, and finally AUN 0678156. I hope this helps the group. Thanks

certain! verified after reading Lub's article sometime back.

interesting !!!!

We've accumulated so many notes for AU_ that I had to split up the thread by prefix. I tried adding the ARX notes to the big post and I hit the 10000 character limit. :o
End result is that the lists are now more organized.

Hi everyone,
Here's an idea sent to me by an "anonymous" member ;D
I know that many of you have some very impressive collections, maybe not specifically referring to the $2s we're studying, but other notes. I also realize that some of you may be reluctant to advertise your posession of any particular note. If you want to contribute to our lists but don't want to advertise that you just happen to "know" where a note is, ;) you can send me a PM or email and simply let me know the s/n and signatures and request that the note be listed anonymously. I will add the information to the lists but instead of your username in the final column, it would read "Anonymous". Further, I pledge to keep any information given to me in this respect in confidence and I will not reveal it without your express permission.
Hopefully this offer of anonymity will encourage even greater participation in our quest to find all of the changeovers including previously unknown ones.
Thanks!

This has certainly proved to be a worthwhile effort. Some interesting new finds and confirmation of previous efforts of this changeover can only benefit the collector. Personally I have drawn up some conclusions but I'll leave the analysis to those more qualified to determine.
In an earlier post in this thread rarenote suggested that high range C/B in the AUJ prefix should be considered a separate variety. The findings of this group, while by no means complete, seem to support that view. They appear to be less common than the AUJ T/C notes, hence some consideration maybe due. The current catalogue has many examples of current notes listed by serial number range. I wonder if it's now time to include specific 1986 $2.00 AUG-N into this practice where warranted? Of course it's easy to make this suggestion when someone else will have to do the work, but hopefully I'm not alone on this opinion.
Have fun collecting

This is fascinating Reading! I have chimed into this post somewhat late, but for what it's worth, this is what I have a record of, could have a few others and will check and add to the list if/when I find them.
[Numbers added to the lists. Thanks! --BWJM]
I have the 2nd and 5th edition of the Charlton Guide. The 2nd edition was published in 1987 and there is no mention of the AU_ series as of that edition. The 5th edition notes the AU_ series and anomalies. I am missing the 3rd and 4th editions (and the 7th edition). Which edition first makes reference to the AU_ anomaly?
{{Aside: Also, if anyone has the 3rd, 4th or 7th edition for sale/trade, please let me know. I have the 9th for trade if interested.}}
This series has always interested me, but the notes were so scarce to find (even in the 90's) that collecting them has always been a challenge. I wish you all luck with finding an AUG/AUH/AUJ T/C in a dealer's junk box! ;D

Well my AUJ note is in UNC and the # is 9654734. In 1996 i bought this note for 75$ if i recall but the guy who sold me this note had no idea where the value would go. It was still under research and no one really knew just how many AUJs existed. He knew that the crow-bouey was the more common AUJ but it was still not clear at the time. Now in 2004 we still dont have much info (though we have more) but it is become more clear that we have three sets of AUJ notes:
AUJ0000001-9****** Crow-Bouey
AUJ9******-9380000*Thiessen-Crow
AUJ9380000-9999999*Crow-Bouey
At the moment the values in UNC are
Crow-Bouey: $150, Thiessen-Crow: $1,200
Perhaps soon we will see 3 values for the AUJ notes:
Crow Bouey (below 9.3million): UNC $150
Crow Bouey (above 9.3million): UNC $1,500
Thiessen-Crow: UNC $1,200
I predict that the crow-bouey notes falling above 9380000 will actually be worth more than Thiessen Crow AUJ notes. Does anyone else believe the same?

with 6 pages of this thread and over 84 replies i think it might be better to break this particular thread down to several threads, in other words one thread for AUG, one for AUH, one for AUJ and so on... I believe this would make it alot easier for everyone
-
That's a fair request... consider it done.
Please post your finds to the appropriate thread from now on. Make sure to include who signed the note(s) and where you saw it (or if it's in your possession). The notes may fall well within an observed range, but we still need to know for sure what the signatures are.
Thanks!
