Title: A note lost by Canada Post.. any recourse??
Post by: only4teeth on March 02, 2009, 05:33:14 pm
Hi Folks,

I recently sold a note on ebay ( value $170.00 ) and sent the note Xpresspost with signature to a location also in Ontario.
The note was sent on February 18th and to this date still has not arrived. If the note has not arrived by this Friday, I plan to reimburse the purchaser 100%.

My question is this: what, if any recourse do I have with Canada Post?

Thanks,
Scott

I believe when sending something with signature required via xpress-post, there is $100.00 insurance included in that. You can also purchase extra insurance. I'm not sure on how to go about collecting the insurance portion.

I wouldn't give up just yet.  I once shipped an item via Xpress Post which turned up fully a month later in the recipient's post office somewhere.  The cardboard packaging was apparently well coloured with coffee stains but the contents were fine.  It makes one wonder what they were doing with it.  The Post Office refunded the shipping cost because they failed to deliver it on time.  Have you asked them to investigate the loss of the package?

This has happened to me once before. Just call Canada Post, they will do a short investigation, then send you a cheque for $100, more if you bought extra insurance.

I have already reported this to Canada Post. I was asked "what the contents were". I told them paperwork....

Will they pay $100 regardless of the contents?

It was a limited edition 5x7 print signed by the artist.....
Need a receipt?

Yes they will pay $100, I always say its a lithograph print. Usually what I write for customs as well when sending outside of Canada.

I had the same thing happen.  One Expresspost going to a BC Post Office Box.
The buyer actually asked the Post office and they were like... "Oh Yeah.. Its been here for 2 weeks"

If it was shipped to a PO Box get the Customer to ask the Local Post office where his box is.

From now on I check every Express Post package for Delivery Standards.  If they are late 1 Day,  I file a claim for late delivery.  I have gotten over $50 in Refunded postage so far.

If no one complains about Canada Post's Crappy Service they will remain crappy.

Its not hard to file a late delivery claim.  10 Seconds on the webpage.. usually a couple weeks later a check shows up in my mailbox.

If I ever have to mail anything over a couple hundred dollars I am gonna use Fedex... lol.. At least they won't "misplace" it somewhere and use it as a coaster.

So, do you refund the buyer's S&H fees?   ;-)

FWIW, FedEx refuses currency for shipment to the U.S.  I had a $1000 Pine Grosbeak purchase that the seller had to carry to Seattle and mail USPS Registered Mail.
