Can someone tell me what the rotators are worth?    Can we look at this as fill in the blanks.
Does a certain rotator number warrant more of a premium?  can you fill in the blanks?

example
8990668-worth........4 digits
8880888-worth........2 digits and repeater
8968968-worth.........3 digit repeater and rotator

I know the book has a price but  the real price is not realized.  The book is just a guide.

Thanks

Polarbear may I ask, do you have a rotator 8968968?

Second, I would think that there should be different prices on rotators depending on how many digits are involved.

And my next question would be, does anyone know what the total possible rotators are for 2 digit, 3 digit and 4 digit?

There is only 127 possible rotators per prefix run of 10 million notes (excluding the note #0000000). This number is splitted into  60 4-digits,  52  3-digits, 14  2-digits  and only one 1-digit  rotator (#8888888).  So the rotators are much rarer than the 2-digits radar.

There are:
2 x 1-digit rotators
42 x 2 digit rotators
72 x 3-digit rotators
12 x 4-digit rotators

Remember:  To count the number of digits in a rotator, use only the first four digits (like with radars).  Within the first four digits: 0, 6, 8, 9 are all considered separate digits.  For the fifth, sixth and seventh digit, there is only one corresponding numbers that will make the serial number a rotator.  For example, a '6' for the second digit corresponds to a '9' in the sixth digit.

Wow, so as appealing 2 digit rotators look and are, 4 digit rotators are much rarer.

Hmmmm interesting.

Does anyone feel that a 4 digit should be worth more than a 2 digit?

And nice work on the rotator table CJ.

I think they should be, Mainly because they are probably harder to find!

The stats I gave about the numbers of rotators according their number of digits was simply based on the number of different digit necessary to built the entire serial number.  This was was simpler to my mind.  A "6" is a "6", regardless the rank it fills in the number.  And I found that the logic was also preserved:  the rotators that are made with the most digits should be aslo the more common, hence the less expensive.

Do you think that a 4-digit rotator as 0968960 could worth more than 8008008, simply because  there is only 12 of them, against 43 2-digits rotators (according to the last system) ?

Just ask this question:  which number is the more desirable:  8008008 (a 2-digit rotator according to both systems) or 0990660 (a 3-digits rotator for me, a 2-digits according to CJ)?

Incidentally, I never found a rotator in my search, and I don't have any rotator in my collection....

the price of any item should be set by the supply and the demand of the item....even though the 4-digit rotator is less common than the 2-digit rotator (less supply)... the demand is much smaller (the 2-digit rotator is always more desirable)..hence undoubtedly in my mind...the 2-digit rotator should worth more.....

Here is  another  question.  Is 8880888  or  8980868  worth  more.  1  is radar/rotator and  other  is just  a  rotator?    cheers  Polarbear

I would have to say if 8880888 is a $100.00 note and 8980868 is a $5.00 note then the 8880888 is worth more ;D
