Title: After HBZ... a new printer letter coming?
Post by: JB-2007 on February 09, 2014, 11:54:34 am
We will soon be at the end of HBG-HBZ after perhaps HCA-HCZ?? Then perhaps we might see J used JNA-JNZ?? Any guesses

My guess, and a strong one in fact, is that we'll probably see HCA after HBZ.  Seeing that the $5 bill is the only likelihood of seeing denominational letter C, since the earliest recycled letter for the $10 is F, and the earliest for the $20 (after Z) is L.  Given that they recycled L, R and U for the $20, and reverted back to I afterwards, it wouldn't shock me if C is next after HBZ.

Of course, the $10 bill did recycle F (formerly on the $1 bill, and enjoyed a very, very small limited run on the final 1975 $50's), but again, the $10 denominational letter F was incomplete (it only got as far as BFW), so we won't know for many, many years if we will see what will come after FFZ, if we'll be seeing FGA, or if we will see GDA.  I think that if the $5 HC* series gets exhausted before the $10 FF* series, denominational letter G will likely appear on the $5, and if true, we may see FJA-FJZ or GDA-GDZ on the $10 (denominational letter J is, most likely, retired from the $100, but can likely appear on the $5 or $10, if anything.

Of course, just because letter I is not used as a third letter, doesn't mean it's not used on serial numbers.  The letter I is still seen on the $20s as a denominational letter, so that's an indicator that we may likely be seeing INA-INZ after the printer letter H runs its course.  Then again, maybe by that time, we may end up seeing $5 coins.

Doubt if it'll be a prefix beginning with J.  There were counterfeit Journey 10s (without the holographic stripe) that began with J. Nothing's stopping CBN from using A, B, C or D as the first letter now...

I can confirm that ne new denominational letter for the polymer 5$ is HCA. I tried to put it in the SNDB but was rejected...  I sent an e-mail with a complete scat to prove its existence.

The serial is HCA3952927 FPN 31 BPN 31...

Here the complete scan:

If I recall, the last time denominational letter C appeared on our banknotes was way back in 1989 - which was a quarter of a century (25 years) ago.  I think this may be the longest gap between their previous appearance and their latest appearance since the BoC recycled denominational letters from the banknotes no longer circulating.

Of course, we still have yet to see denominational letter G appear, and I bet that, if the HC* run is finished printing before the $10 FF* prefixes are done printing, we may likely see HG* prefixes on the $5's.  As they say, "the early bird gets the worm."

yes. This was last used on the 1973 1$ Series ACA-ACZ, BCA-BCZ and ECA-ECW

HCC notes found today :)

Don't forget to report the signatures.  Wilkins-Poloz could pop up at any time.  Or maybe Macklem-Carney will make a surprise reappearance.  :D

I have posted the signature combo along with the serial number confirmation for the HCC note ending in 5200.  It will be there until a lower note is logged in.
