Does anyone know the range for the AXA steel engraved notes and the AXA lithographed back notes? I know there are approximately 400,000 of these notes but the Charlton Catalogue does not give a range of each. It is odd that the Catalogue does provide ranges for the AFF, EAK, AAX, EAX. Any thoughts?
FYI - Mine is AXA0173082

There is some information on number ranges for AXA on page 284.
There is also a study on this series published in the Dec. 2008 CPMS Newsletter.

Thanks Bob...I was reading Page 292.
Still a little odd that they can't determine the range completely. The Book notes the range is between 0 and 1305299 but only 400,000 are documented (200,000 of each type). AXA0700000 to AXA0899999 is steel and AXA0900000 to AXA1099999 is litho, would I be safe to assume that mine is steel?

Quite safe, I'd say.

The number you posted ( FYI - Mine is AXA0173082 ) seems to be outside of either range? Maybe a typo?

I would suggest that everyone read the study contained in the Dec 2008 CPMS Newsletter as it discusses this topic at length.

I'll go read the newsletter. Thanks Brent.

I read the newsletter and it clears up some issues but there are many more to be answered.
I have one 1973 $1 test note but I'm not sure of the prefix. I'll send the info if it is an AXA but I'm quite sure it's an EXA.

Gary;
I meant to note in my previous posting that the serial number that I provided was not a typo...it is AXA0173082.
-
I have added this serial number to my list. Could you also provide front and back plate numbers? The serial number falls into the range of steel engraved backs, but if you could confirm this by observation I would be appreciative.

Oops, sorry about not replying to your email eyevet...not that bright.
The AXA note I have is AXA0173082 FP238 BP256
