Hate to break it to ya, the 1973 $1 is one of the most common Canadian notes. In MINT condition it is worth $3, in NEAR MINT condition you might get a couple of bucks for it, but that's about it.

Yes these are very common.

I give these out as change to kids in my shop.

You can pick them up sometimes at facevalue from various Coin Dealers and I will often grab some to leave behind as a tip in a restaurant, donation bin or for coffee at Timmy's.

Even if you have to pay a slight premium for the banknotes the reaction and questions you receive are priceless sometimes and well worth the time and effort!

leaving those types of notes as tips used to be fun, but now you get questioned
and looked at like you're trying to pass counterfeits.

about a year ago, I went to timmies with the Journey $5 bill before the new security features.  I was rejected and told the bill was counterfit.

kids these days...

on the other hand, my wife brought me about $100 in 50 cent pieces that someone had cashed in at work, and we often use these at timmies for the same reason that the look on their faces in priceless..

You should always keep a few decent looking $1 and $2 notes just for sovenir purposes. 50 cent pieces also.

I still have my original plastic holder with the bills that started my collection: 1973 $1, 1974 $2, 1986 $2, 1986 $5 and 1937 $5 (rough). All probably just worth a few pennies above face.
