Title: BCJ Prefix?
Post by: pascalli2 on August 21, 2017, 11:40:56 pm
Hi - I am trying to check out the value or find out anything interesting about a couple of $1 bills I have from 1973, but everything I can find about the serial number doesn't seem to line up.  They start with BCJ followed by 7 numbers.  As far as I can tell, they should have only two letters?  And I haven't seen any reference to $1 notes from that series starting with BC?  Is it just that they are really common, so nobody ever lists these prefixes on price lists, etc?

Thanks!

The BCJ prefix is correct. The 1973 notes started out with 2 prefix letters then later on moved to 3. The BCJ notes are common enough that they just fall under the three letters heading in the catalog and sell for $3-4 each in Uncirculated if you are lucky.

Hope this helps you!
