Just An Idea ive had, I was thinking that this topic could be used for posting some interesting things that have been aqquired in change recently.
For me the most interesting thing recently was an EF 1979 20$ Thiessen Crow out of a Local 7-11 CIBC ATM. The next would be an AU 1989 10$ Bonin-Thiessen, Not that its really worth much, Its just odd to find Birds of Canada ten's in that condition anywhere where I live.
-
Are you including radars and recent Journey notes or just older bills?
-
Someone came to buy coffee at my store and paid with a 1971 Crow/Bouey $10 bill today :D that made my day! Prefix FDB, in Fine-VF condition.
-
Hey There,
I saw a GREAT one last week!
A friend of my wife's Dad had his Lucky note in his wallet.... ;)
It was an early Journey $5 that was 7777777
HE said he does not go anywhere without it. It was in VG at best but I was stunned. I didn't look at it long enough to catch the prefix.... I am sure it was AO?
I was just stunned I was looking at a Solid Digit caught in Circulation! :o
-
I got BET0850498 VG in circulation in Vancouver a few months ago. I don't think very many BET saw circualation much further west than Ottawa.

Interesting :-?
It must have flown out there ;D
Good find :exclamation
-
Take a look at this one. My heart fell out.

HAHAHA! You found that?! Congrats!!! :D
Isn't this hobby wonderful? You start out looking for a single note for your daughter, and look what you find!
-
Well first BEL's
than radars (at regular issue prices)
now million numbered whistles!
You sure do find em :D
Good on ya!
-
Just found tonight in a local McDonalds HOS9991999 VF. 8-)
-
polar bear... that's a pretty rare find... lol... congrats!
-
You know, I gotta stop using my debit and credit cards all time. The last time I got real cash is returning a pile of refundable containers and got a $10 BTC0975525 in EF. I may really find something if I start using money for what it was intended for. ;D

I first started collecting paper money when I was 15 years old and working at a car wash. Back in the 70's a carwash cost $2.00 ($3.00 with a wax), so I used to see tons of $1.00/$2.00. I actually was intrigued with the idea of keeping old money becuase the 1954's were being phased out, and we had the new (very cool) multi-colored issue. At the carwash... (and after seeing hundreds of notes) all I found was one $1.00 radar, an *C/F and a bunch of raggy $1/$2 and $20. A few years later on another job, I found an *R/E 1974 $2.00 (AU) and 3 raggy asterisk $1. :-/ However, I really didn't know what to look for like I know now.
My point is: I've been looking for rare notes for a long time, and I never find low numbers, million numbered, and just a few radars. For a short time I started searching notes (100 to 1000 at a time), and then I could only find 1 or 2 ratty BEK's, no BEL's and 1 2004 BER that was covered in grease.
If you find something - COUNT yourself VERY LUCKY!
I watched Polar Bear, BWJM, and Oli get some great "finds" by just doing very thorough searches at a few shows too. I thought it couldn't be done (because of my own lousy luck) but have found a few "not bad" finds myself (not like BWJM's test note mind you!)
My most recent find was a VF 2 digit (not a radar) 2004 BEY change-over from circulation. I can relate to "Punky'sDad"
-
Don't be so quick to count yourself out James, remember that 1937 $2 note you picked up (I believe it was a changeover) at the last show I saw you at? Not a bad find there.
-
Well I can say I am a bit lucky I got this today out of a ATM. Its a replacement note.
(http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7928/eythc2.th.jpg) (http://img440.imageshack.us/my.php?image=eythc2.jpg)

Picked up a few bricks of HOV today, and found my first ladder! ;D\
No inserts found.
Sorry just realized this forum is for items found in change.

-
Very nice find. ;) I want to find one for face. I just picked up a Radar out of the Bank today 2927292 on a $20 ;D
-
LOL yes we are all waiting to get that kind of set for face vaule ;)
Arthur
-
Very nice Manada, those are extremely tough to find.
-
Hey that's the spirit. So I'm gonna get that Unc $10 replacement BEX-Ascending-error-mustached-John-A-MacDonald-BC-63aAxxii right out of that 7-11 ATM right around the corner from where I live. Think positive....think positive...think...oh that's the dinner bell ringing. :D
-
This was purchase, not a find, but I thought it was worthy of a mention. I bought it because of the "8888" and because it happened to be 2 notes away from a 2-digit radar and only 5 notes away from a rotator. This note was once it good company, I wonder where the radar and rotator are? :'(
{http://www.geocities.com/cj_sidewall/banknotes/Shiplaster688884.JPG}
FYI: This was purchased at the travelling Antiques show now at Cloverdale Mall (427 & Dundas). Accidently stumbled across the show while buying food. They are there the first full week in March and November annually. Two paper dealers, I've looked through everything, nothing too exciting. Lots of china and silverware though.
-
You brick hunters are very efficient and thorough. I have not found anything in years. Not radars, not repeaters, not low-number notes, you name it. Good work. ;)
Maybe when I DO finally find something, it will be a doozy, like that run of consecutive mismatched serials number $50 notes from another thread.
Your not alone! I always pay in cash for all my purchases but i never find anything either anymore. I was lucky on a few occasions though years back. I did find my EVH Missing BPN in change and i have also found a 1969 *WF $20, too bad it wasn't the scarcer *WL! I have always been lucky with the birds $20s, managed to find all the X replacements from the bank machine and also managed to find a bunch of AIWs (With serifs I) too and all other missing BPN prefixes.
-
.... I bought it because of the "8888" and because it happened to be 2 notes away from a 2-digit radar and only 5 notes away from a rotator.
I have often wondered whether or not "near miss" radars, "near miss" rotators, "near miss" ladders and the like have any premium value over regular number notes. My feeling has always been that "a miss is as good as a mile". It's like owning a lottery ticket that is just one number away from the winning prize. However, as true radars, true rotators and true ladders become scarcer and scarcer (on account of increased demand) then perhaps a lower-level market will develop for the "near misses".
Has anyone ever paid good money for a "near miss"? :-/
-
I don't think people would pay more for "near miss" numbers. Only if they are Fancy numbers like 7777776. But if its a number like 4987824. They will not pay more.
I was very close to a rotator last week. HPA 6968269 :'(
-

I think your assessment is correct and that the near-miss # collecting is a recent phenomenon prompted more by online marketing (ie eBay and the like).

And besides that would make it a near hit. Not a near miss. If it nearly missed, isn't that really a hit? :-?

I think its interesting that there is this young "budding market." And: you're right- a near hit like being one number off winning the "jackpot" (a fancy number, near radar), the Lotto 6/49 for those more exciting near solid/ladders I guess!
Being near the "bulls-eye" is part of the appeal I'm sure. There is another thread which has posted a $2 Birds # 5432101 which is almost like a descending ladder with an ascending "step." I have to say that I find what people collect (or find interesting/appealing), is in itself interesting... There's many a forum member here who've I've talked this over with many a time.
-

Ottawa, you are right, a miss is a miss. Like the old saying: "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades".
Like I mentioned before, I only bought this note because of the "8888" and the fact it was a few notes away from a radar and a rotator. I paid book for the note, but had it been any other random serial number I would not have purchased the note.
If given the choice between a random and a fancy serial number (at the same price), I'd definitely take a fancy number. I may even pay slightly more for a fancy number, but no where close to the premiums for radars, ladders or rotators. A miss is just that, a miss.
I leave you now with some near misses near hits ( ;D) that have passed through my hands ..... sigh ..... :'( >:( :'(

Found in a recent brick search. Got so excited I neglected to save shoulder notes (near solids) :'(
Note is now owned by a fellow CPMF member who could appreciate it more than I could.
(http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/6210/200450ahd8888888backsu5.th.jpg) (http://img406.imageshack.us/my.php?image=200450ahd8888888backsu5.jpg)
-
I can attest to the note's beauty. ;) ;D
Very rarely do you see solid radars in the $50 and $100 denomination in any condition, especially in UNC. I have only seen one Journey $100 7777777 in VF-EF offered for sale once on the forum, and one well circulated 1975 $100 5555555 found by a fellow forum member. I have never seen a solid $50 in any denomination (until now).
-
I must add that it's also a rotator! :o
Should make it worth more for being a solid radar and also a rotator...
-
8888888 Hey...now that's some note.
I can see sometime in the future some Chinese Canadian note collector will offer to buy that with many bucks. The number 8 is very, very popular in Chinese tradition and the fact that the note is a nice red is also very symbolic in chinese culture. Wealth, prosperity, and wisdom.

-
Yes it is very lucky, some time it came, I found one $20 1991 AWR0000020 and it about AU condition at Royal bank ATM.

-
There we go, it was a matter of time before I find something, at least it is a small find.
A $10 FER9465684 insert in very F condition. I'll hang on to it as a filler for now until I get a better one then spend it.
PD. Starts using real cash instead of plastic.
-
Got a lucky brick in my delivery today. Saw the 8 Million sitting right on top of the brick and knew right away that a
nice 2-digit radar/rotator was in the same bundle ;D
I also kept the 8000080, 8000088, 8000800, 8000808, 8000880 and 8000888.

-
Very nice find Arthur, but it'll be hard to trump that solid $50 you found. ;D
-
I don't know....I'm feeling a little lucky these days. I guess searching 20 bricks a week doesn't hurt either ;)
-
Beauty!
I guess searching 20 bricks a week doesn't hurt either
At least you don't make it sound as if it flew into your lap!
-
Just took out $400 in 10s today out of my bank. Started to look though them and the 2ed note was FEV 0498940. An Insert Radar! :o Too bad its not UNC >:(

Still good Mikey
Insert Radars are hard
-
Nice find on the Solid $50. It can really get the heart pumping when you see something like that right on top. :)
I have had several bricks and I could see Inserts sitting right on top. Good feeling when making the pickup! :D
I guess I should quit paying for everything with plastic, I could end up missing that Million or Solid note that could be at the 7-11 around the corner... ::)
-
I was able to put this together. These 2 notes have the same number. The 1973 is a real number and the 1954 is a binary number. :D 8-)
(http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/3072/coolnumbersek3.th.jpg) (http://img263.imageshack.us/my.php?image=coolnumbersek3.jpg)
-
talking about same numbers, has anyone found any 1973 $1/2004 $20 matching prefix+serial number within the ALA-ALZ issue? It'be interesting to see two matching serial numbers within those two series.
-
I got the serial number 6111111 in a 1954 devils face 1 and the same number on a 1991 20 always on the look out for that number hint hint
-
I was able to get this at a bank today. ;D :P
A nice repeater in EF

I also found this. Its a Repeater Ladder note! ;) The 567 repeats and then the 8 makes it a ladder. :P

That is a seriously amazing find! Well done! I only could wish (or imagine) ONE of those good fortunes hitting me!
-
Thanks. Its really paying off just going to the bank and changing my 5s into 10s and then 10s into 5s. I also got a BEY insert in AU and a FER insert in VG in those 10s. :)
-
Nice find Mike good to know they are still out there to be found (by me) ;) lol nice find

Good day today.
The Hanwell Horton's coughed up two familiar $5.00 banknotes (HOZ and HPA). I went to pay for purchase elsewhere and YIKES the HOZ was a four digit radar (HOZ0352530). :o I had it in my hand and was ready to pay. How stupid would that have been.
Also received an EYY9792513 $20.00 insert this morning as well. :)
-
Hi,
Yesterday I asked to the cash teller 300$ all in 10$.I found a BEV0587...insert VF,but I found somethings else better in EF condition no stain,no tears only folds,it's a FEP 0077781,what a surprise!!It was long time I hope to find this insert,at every show I went no one got this insert.I think it's a scarce one???

Just found ($50) Jenkins/Dodge Journey
AHJ9000000 (Million)
AHJ9000009 (Radar&Swim)
AHJ9000199 (AHJ HIGH?)
FRIEDSQUID
-
The number 9000009 is a radar but not a swims or rotator. The number 9000006 would be a swims or rotator. Some people on this site get really crazy when this type of number is called swims they would rather have it called a rotator. I think swims is more appropriate but one name should be choosen. A swims number looks the same when flipped over.
-
Better run to the bank quick I gave the 9000006 back. BACK in 10 minutes

Found a crisp unc HOH 9823504 in a book at the library today.
Funny thing is that the book was about collecting world coins.
Think I will go back tomorrow and see if any more bookmarks were left behind in the other books.
That library card was the best investment I made. Oh yeah. It was FREE.

I found a 2-digit radar in my till today!

While I'm reviving some old threads here is one that I always liked to have a look at to see what folks were turning up.
About 2 months ago I pulled some cash out of and ATM at a TD Bank on Don Mills Road. Got 2-50 Inserts
FMI 9871729-30. I should have made another withdrawl to try an get more because they are $ 225.00 in the 20th edition
-
if they where in an atm they would not be gem UNC probably a 60
-
Nice pull from an ATM!!
;D
-
Maybe being in an ATM saved them from a brutal tellers counting crease!
-
Yes I agree, great pull from a ATM. And the guy behind you at the ATM would have just squished them up and stuck in his pocket. YOU SAVED THEM lol Keep the ongoing search alive!
Jeff
-
I don't know if this would really be considered a "find" since I never received any of these bills in change, but I thought I would post anyways.
I was at my bank today and the teller said "I was just thinking about you" I asked why and she told me they just had a bunch of old 100's deposited in the atm. I asked to see them and found 7- 1937 $100's, a 1954 devil's face 100, and a bunch of 2's and 1's. Needless to say I bought them all.
Nothing of interest in the ones, but I found 2 consecutive AUL's in ef+ and 2 consecutive AUK's in au.
Not a bad bunch of notes for face value I must say:)
-
Nice find Scott!!! :D
It is nice when they remember you like that! 8)
-
I agree - but the sad thing is, how many times did they just think of me and not say anything??? I told them that anytime they get old bills in that I would buy them.
and btw, I was able to get $1000 notes from them too!
Scott
-
I'd not dwell on what passes you by, but what you're lucky enough to get. those finds sound sweet to me!
-
Don't get me wrong, I'm still very pleased!!
-
Hi,
I decided to pay a visit to the big banks in downtown Toronto this afternoon. At the Bank of Nova Scotia, the teller was able to give me the following notes:
1954 $100 B/J2697067 nice and clean EF
1954 $50 B/H3741505 Nice clean EF; minor crease in centre and edge fold in bottom right corner with residual black ink in margins on back.
1954 $20 B/W4118137 VF; 3 creases and some rippling but bright and clean
1954 $10 S/V 7644254 F; creasing and some minor edge trauma.
The teller also gave me:
3x US $2 series 1976
6x Birds $2 "spenders"
4x 1973 $1 "spenders"
a very good day in the "hunt" for notes! I always feel like it's a treasure hunt...sometimes you get nothing sometimes they surprise you!
cheers,
Dean

A friend of my wife's Dad had his Lucky note in his wallet....
It was an early Journey $5 that was 7777777
Next time you see him, pull out a ten and ask if he has two fives. Maybe you will get lucky ;D
-
I have been hunting for years and finally found a 1954 $50 solid radar. In fact, this is the first one that I
have ever seen. The note is original CUnc with a minor counting flick. Based on technical details there is
a possibility of only 16 x 1954 $50 modified solid radars. The note was purchased privately in BC by a collector
over 20 years ago and I was able to obtain it in a trade. Lucky 7s !!! ;D

I am now ready to retire from Brick hunting.

Where's the $50 & $100??
JK that is a nice set!

1954 $1 Modified Serial Number Out of Register Error in original Unc
-
Great find on the 1954 error note.
-
Nice find Arthur!!
Do you have one of the A/O 068xxxx 078xxxx serial # error notes as well?
And how is it everthing you find is always UNC and everything I find is CRA* :'(
-
I have seen a number of the 1954 $1 A/O mismatched serial number notes but unfortunately I don't have one.
You wouldn't believe how many rocks I have to look under before I find the notes I want in UNC. Fortunately
I am patient enough to wait for those nice Unc notes to surface. They are out there but very elusive. This
particular note was part of a collection that dates back over 20 years and was probably acquired when these
notes were still in circulation.
-
This 1954 $1 error note was part of the same collection. I am still trying to figure out how this one occurred ???
Looks like an origami experiment gone bad !!
-
Here is the back of the same note.
-
Wow that's weird.....like it was printed on scraps of paper from the print shop floor or ???
Don O had a similar "54 $2. last week on the 'Bay.

Just found in circulation:
-Birds $20 EWZ Radar, 3867683 - just short of the 3.888 insert range in Fine

a BABN Beattie-Coyne 1954 $1.00 note - H/M 2292183 in what I would describe as "Gem Unc" condition (or Unc as defined by IBNS but with perfect margins, embossing, etc.) for $30.00 at the Regina Show. I looked for this note at shows for a number of years and was always outbid when the note appeared on eBay. Purchased from the same dealer who sold me 4 of these notes in sequence at the Spring Show. From the same run but several notes away from the other 4. A keeper.

I have a friend at a bank who save some turned in notes for me. Yesterday he gave me
FDT 4519228 - UNC60
FDT 4519257 - UNC60
FDT 4988471 - UNC63+
FDT 4988467 - UNC63+
Pretty neat, the very first Journey $ 10 Prefix. And I only came back to collecting in the last few years so I don't have them.
-
I just purchased 6 1975 $100, at face value from the bank(where my wife works). (see listing at the 'trading post').
and within the last month or so, got 2 SNR $5 from work. (at a gas station were I still work the occasional weekend shift for extra spending cash, and the occasional "bonus money" like these). These two circulated notes will be on a well known auction site soon.

Hi,
Today, a teller friend of mine let me look through all of the banknotes he was going to return to the BOC.
I chose to take:
1 Birds $1000 EKA2228667 EF
10 1979 $5 (They're spenders but it's my favourite multicoloured note)
10 1973 $1
2 1954 $1 (Modified)
4 1974 $2
There were many I had to leave behind :(
Sometimes you hit the jackpot.
Cheers,
Dean

That's awesome. :-)

Nice finds.
It really pays to have a friend or "in" at the bank. You just never know what you'll find. Remember though, it doesn't hurt to reward their patience with a treat occasionally. Two dozen doughnuts goes a long way :)

Personally ...I think my presence at the bank is reward enough ;D

I'm still interested in buying this one from you, to go with my AOZ10 - BPZ00 8), that I recently purchased from the trading post. Before you decide to list it on "that well known site" please send me a PM :P. Thanks, Rob

Note: A card with some well thought out thoughts will go even farther.
Someone who was on the inside once told me.....
Coffee and donuts -- in particular -- are "flags" that someone might be trying to swoon the bankers to get standards relaxed (so of course they could commit something awful).
Thus the recommendation of the card.... with some honest thankful thoughts.

Just found an unusual $100 with a clipped top left corner and a blurred serial number.
I would suggest that the blur is the result of a chemical stain. In fact, it would be interesting to conduct a scientific study to determine the effects of various corrosive chemicals on paper money ..... nitric acid, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, turpentine, Javex, lacquer removers, paint strippers, etc. I'm pretty sure that some chemicals would do major damage to the printed design, and some may even dissolve the paper too ...
-
To me, it appears as though there was a petrolium based spot that ended up on the paper- perhaps a dripped grease from an overhead maching while the paper was being fed through for its initial/secondary print run?
Or, one of the workeers was snacking on his KFC while doing quality control inspection on the streaming paper, and he leaned over and, well, you know how greasy that chicken is... some dropped.

Hi all! A few months ago at the RBC branch in St. Marys, Ont my friend had a pile of about 30 1969 $20 and 20 1971 $10. I searched through and found a 1969 $20 *WL in VF-EF and also a 1971 $10 with *TG. From what I've been reading in this forum, *WL and *TG are very rare! I'm going to post a picture of them. Thanks.
-
Sorry but i seem to be having problems putting up the images of the notes. The file is under 75KB and is a JPEG file. It will say that the "Upload File" is full. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
-
I have cleared out a bunch of old attachments, so you should be able to post it now.
Generally speaking however, I do recommend using ImageShack (http://www.imageshack.us) as they have permanent image retention, and they produce handy thumbnails for use on forums that you can click on to see the larger scan. There is no size restriction like we have here. Also, it saves on our bandwidth usage :-)
-
Here are the pics that i promised. First is the $20.

And the 1971 $10. Thanks!

I'm just wondering what grades these notes would be assigned. I'm only a junior collector. My guess is that the $20 is VF+- EF and the 10 would be also be VF. I also had an idea for having a registry for 1969 $20 *WL because i haven't heard at all a *WL arising at an auction, or seen one at a dealer. Thanks, Multicolorama.

Cashed a check for $1800 cash. Asked for $360 (had to wait for it too) in $10's. Only found that the 4 $5's I got were new, but not consecutive. Not even the $100 were new!! The last three digits of two of the $5's were 210 1nd 201? I also found a F grade FER insert.

If your a cashier can take the good notes you find (million numbered, Radar's, Rotors?) If you pay for them of course!
-
Depends on where you work and your boss- It took me a year before he would let me replace notes in the till- it can be a HUGE trust issue for employers to see you removing cash from the till.
I will miss the cashier job but my new job working with PCs will let me buy more notes due to better pay 8)

Since I am only 14 I am looking for my first job! And I was thinking about being a cashier so I would see a lot of notes in a day, and hopefully find a nice Radar, ladder, million numbered note, rotator, replacement or something like that! :)

Hey Hemi, that is a good way to start... then after you have experience working with money and you develop good problem solving skills and people skills (and cash handling skills of course), then apply at your local bank. I hear you might handle a bit more cash there... lol..

I just purchased my first US solid radar note. It is a 1999 $20 solid 4s (BA 44444444 A) in Gem CU :)

A Beattie-Rasminsky 1954 $1 asterick S/O at the George Manz auction in Regina for $25.00. The note is an unc with nice embossing with a tight right margin being the only demerit. The width of the note is also 1/32 of an inch less than average. The note may have been trimmed but there is no apparent reason why such a small amount would have been trimmed. Perhaps it's a note from the edge of the sheet. The serial number is 0184327. Does any one know (and is it knowable) where the note was located on the sheet?
Thanks for any response.
-
Does any one know (and is it knowable) where the note was located on the sheet?
I think Brent knows how to determine where a note would be located on a sheet.
-
Perhaps it's a note from the edge of the sheet. Does any one know (and is it knowable) where the note was located on the sheet?
My guess is yes it would be printed on the edge of the sheet. Left or Right Side, not sure.
Beattie/Rasminsky notes should be printed 1961-1971. From 1956 to 1968, notes were printed in sheets of 32, from 1968 on they were printed in sheets of 40.
If note 0184327 was printed on a sheet of 32, the position should be seventh row, first column (G1), left side of sheet. If printed on a sheet of 40, the position should be, fifth row, fifth column (E5), right side of sheet.
-
Yes it has been added

You sure are lucky to find one. There aren't very many around. I believe they are about equally as rare as the *FH. Did you pay more than the value listed in charlton. Currently the *FH in the same grade is selling around $1,500... i would assume *AA is trending around the same.? Just curious... would just love to add one to my collection.

I hope this fits the criteria of "any response" ;)
I've seen a lot of poorly-centred 1954 asterisk notes. It's probably the norm because the replacement sheets are not always perfectly in alignment with the normal sheets. Many asterisk notes that appear to have been trimmed are probably not, but that's not actually important. A note with a tight margin will appear to be trimmed, and that will knock down the value because of the aesthetics. Most people can't tell a trimmed edge from an original edge. There's no logical reason why someone would trim a note down almost to the design because that's a worse impediment to value than, say, an unsharp corner. TPGs might feel differently, but that's my take.

Nice. The truth is I'm note big on matching serial numbers. I had the $50 then i was offered the $100. I was excited that it was $100 note and given the notes condition you don't see tons of these but i was disappointed i already had that number. I'm thinking of selling or possibly trading the $50. Worst case is I have a matching set. ;D

Found these two notes consecutively...
$100 EJF 6421088
$100 EJF 8221088
The last 5 digits are identical. The position numbers are also the same on both notes (43/38). This is when I realized that these two notes are EXACTLY 5 reams apart (5 x 360,000 = 1.8 million) since CBN notes are printed skip-8,000 and 45/on.
Coincidence? Almost certainly. Both notes are circulated.

What type of error does this count as? It technically isn't a misplaced serial since only one digit is shifted, but it also doesn't count as a Partial Digit Serial Number because the entire 4 is showing and no other number is.

Thanks. It came completely by fluke (& trust me, I rarely have luck finding such "keepers").
I wanted to buy a 6/49 ticket and then said "give me $4.00 quick pick Lottario" to top it off to $10 worth of tickets even. The cashier put the Lottario through before the 6/49. I gave her a $20 (always looking for change) but the 6/49 card got jammed so she couldn't enter my numbers (nor give me $10 change). So I said "fine" just give me the $16.00 and that was the five she handed back to me. Initially, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. ???

Is there any collector interest in such notes? Is there any value beyond face?
-
I think I remember seeing something in the Charlton about binary notes and having some value...
If you're thinking of getting rid of it... PM me...

Very Nice
I never see Birds series notes in change. Let alone a rotator!
-
What are the odds:
Gotten $5 Journey
HPF replacement
HPA replacement
AAD replacement
AAP repeater - 4 digit
HAL
in a bundle of $5 notes.
Unfortunately all in Fine or lower condition. Spenders :(
-
I'd hold onto that HAL. Might prove to be worth keeping.

I wouldn't spend that HPA replacement... this one is very scarce. Its worth a good $100. If you do intend on spending it please let us buy it off you.

Friend of mine told me yesterday that someone came in and paid for something at Canadian Tire with a Bird Series $50 with serial 5881884. Most people wouldn't pick up on that serial, but it's a pretty neat almost radar! haha

Went to the bank to get some US currency and they gave me a 1963 red seal $5! :)

Though a common series, there must not be many still circulating. Very lucky find!

Finally found my first two digit $20 polymer radar.

I received a Birds $5 GNF 8397041 T/C from a CIBC. When it came out of the cash dispenser, the teller said that it was very unusual for such an old note to be recirculated... :)
-
The teller at my bank sold me a 1954 $100 yesterday.
SN: C/J 1805688
It has writing on the back of it, so it's a spender but it is still nice to know that these notes can be obtained from circulation.

That is cool, that they'd circulate it rather than destroying it.

The tellers at this bank are nice to me because I do a LOT of business with them...They save some really neat stuff for me sometimes!

I managed to rescue 5 multicolour $100 notes from the bank today...

today's teller finds include:
Journey series
3x $100
2x $50
1 x $10
10 x $5
1 x Birds $20 prefix EWC
Most will be spent again, I just like knowing that I can still get them from the bank (and add the info to the SNDB!) :)

Always nice to see those old journey notes kicking about, heck even a birds note! Recently I had two chances at getting one, both times either I saw someone in front get it before me or it caught me off guard and I didn't have anything to exchange it with :'(
-
Incredible find! :)
Am I missing something that everyone else can see? It looks like an ordinary 2005 $10 to me. Are there none of these left in circulation in your area? I still get them all the time here in Vancouver.

This is one of the error $10 bills that were printed on $20 paper. If you look at the holographic strip you can see that it is for a $20 bill, and if held to the light the Queen's face appears in the window.
I had gone through a few thousand dollars worth of 10s looking for one... an awesome find!
The CPMS registry for them is here:

Thanks - I can't believe I missed that.

I picked up from the bank yesterday:
2 x 1954 $1
1 x 1975 $100
Notice the "A" in the left hand side of the $100 bill...It appears black when photographed, not red. Was this a security feature of the multicoloured notes?

Every so often you get lucky and find a hidden gem on eBay or being offered by a US online auction house.
I found this scarce note on eBay this week. It was listed in the Coins & Paper Money>Paper Money: US>Small Size Notes>Federal Reserve Notes category.
It was being sold by a US coin and currency dealer out of Spokane, WA as AU+ (no folds but some handling).
Charlton catalogue lists highest grade as AU. Paid USD $250.00 (Best Offer).

1 x 1979 $20 and
1x 2001 $10 FEC 7241523 in about good condition, but with missing circle!

Happened to be at the teller for the first time in almost 2 years doing a simple funds transfer.
At the counter beside me, someone was turning in a pile of old notes (noticed the 1954 $20 on top) - the teller was asking "is this Canadian money"? Immediately I stepped in and offered to exchange the notes off the customer.
There was $83 in the pile, 1x1954 $20, 1x1954 $10 (DF), 1x1954 $10, 1x1954 $5, 1x1954 $2, 2x1974 $2, 8x1986 $2, 2x1937 $1, 2x1954 $1, 12x1973 $1.
Nothing remarkable in the pile (the 1954s and 1937s were in rough shape), but still a cool find at the bank by pure coincidence! (I've never gotten 54s or 37s from a bank before)
-
The teller at my bank is a nice guy who saves cool things for me. Found me a 1975 $100 a few days ago - not very good shape but I am not a picky collector.
The guy who counts money at my work knows that I like cool old bills so whenever he gets bird bills he calls me over and I get to trade out for them. Found a lot of 20s and 100s that way, a few fifties but mostly those two. Actually got this one on Friday - someone actually spent this at a store in 2016. I'm not complaining, though:

That could go under near misses, too. I swear I've had at least 10 bills in the last three days that were almost-radars with the final digit wrong.
-
Found by a fellow worker, not in the best shape, but still a keeper!

Those look pristine. :)
-
Yeah, they're in pretty good shape. Some of them have minor bends (unfortunately, I had to walk around with them all day before I could lay them to rest at home) but I'm hoping a few months in a safety deposit box will flatten them back, haha. Those EBJs also came with a bunch of uncirculated EBKs but the serials are a little less aesthetically pleasing (some missing bills in the middle) for 58 of them in total.
-
Nothing like Dean's find, but someone paid my wife for his newspaper with that 2$ bill two weeks ago ! 8)
