Title: Grade of Specimen Notes

On page ix (at the end of the grading section) it says that "Proof, specimen and essay notes are commonly accepted as being in uncirculated condition".

I don't know about the other types, but aren't specimen notes typically described and found in "about uncirculated" condition?

Specimens from the Bank of Canada sales showed handling, glue spots, set numbering, and so on, resulting in Chuck Moore, the auctioneer, assigning a grade of AU to most of them.  Notes from those sales were the exceptions.  Proofs and specimens are generally Unc, and if there are impairments, they would be expected to trade below catalogue.
