This bill make me sick >:(
Look at the serial Number!
-
I found one yesterday that made me equally ill, it's serial is 3373333. >:(
-
>:( Getting an EBX3888888 1986 $2 didn't make my day either >:(
-
Could I say it makes me sick
when people complain when they find interesting number notes ?
I am always glad when I come across interesting bills like those. In fact, many years ago I got a note (I forgot the prefix, but it is still in my collection) 4444442. And last month
I got EVZ 4444442. If I were you should i feel doubly sick ?
Life is short, be glad for what you get. If these bills frustrate you, perhaps you should find other less frustrating things to do.
cheers

Further proof that sarcasm and facetiousness don't translate well into the printed word.
They are joking Don. :)
I got burned this way on one of my very first posts; Paul may remember because he THOUGHT I was slamming him. I was just trying to be funny and "tongue in cheek". It went over like a brick, and then I had to furiously back-peddle to apologize.
Now I'm never funny..... ::)
-
Aaaaaaargh >:(
I got HNZ 2553551.
:) :) :) :) :) :)
-
I got a BEU0011101 from my BMO Bank of Montreal today. I saw it, asked for a few more, and it was going up! The customer before me got it! :'(
-
how about this one:
ANY 8000001
-
I recall finding a $20 (forgot the prefix) with the number 9999998. It was awful, and I spent it.
-
I had a 1991 $20.00 go through our store. Can't remember the prefix but the number was 1234564. :o
-
I found an EYH 4222222 tonight.
-
I have a 1973 $1 EXA1234341.
-
I've came across many quasi-radars and others interesting numbers during my search through tousands of notes since 5 ou 6 years:
I got (and kept) an awful 20$ Birds AWC8666666, a F 5$ Birds GPP3333343, and a VF 10$ Birds ADX1000011. I've missed alot of nice 2 digits radars 20$ during my search in ATMs.
I missed by 26 notes a 20$ ladder in an ATM few months ago : AZZ0987680, and the next note to fall was ***681, ***682,...the numbers were going up!
But I never found a solid radar, nor a million numbered nore, nor any ladder...
And it should no be surprising: the odds to miss are much greater than an hit... :-/
-
Here are some neat notes in my collection.
-
I found one today that is TRULY frustrating, It's a 1991 EVH N BPN 20, the frustrating thing is that someone has stamped it with a "see where this bill has been" stamp! AAAAGH! ???
-
You think that's bad?
How about a 1979 $5 "33" test note? One of those was entered on Where's Willy? a while ago. Who knows, it could be rubber stamped and floating around in circulation too! >:(
Back on topic, I once found a Journey $5, bad condition, s/n 1111911. ::)
-
Oops, I've just noted that in my previous post that I said that I missed an AZZ 20$ note. Just a typo... Obviously, I meant AYZ... since the the higher prefix reported to date is AZM...:-[,
-
Yesterday we received a mixed bundle of 100 new $10 notes at the bank. In the bundle I found FEP 6666626, FEP 6666667 and FEP 6666668. :-[
Unfortunately the solid radar wasn't there. This is very frustrating. I will put those notes in the Traders corner section.
-
Isn't that the way it always goes, you spend your whole life looking for unique serial numbers, solid serial numbers, radars, ladder notes, 10 millionth note or the first note in a new prefix, etc... And most of these notes fall into the hands of people who don't give a rat's ass about banknotes or special serial numbers and they just get spent. Or those special notes just get heavily circulated over time and end of getting destroyed by the BOC, never reaching a collector's hand?
-
I wonder what really happens to these notes.
Since Phil works at a bank, he obviously is high in the chain of who touches these notes first. So if the solid note he referred to was missing from the bundle, someone above him has already taken it out.
Would this make sense? Would it be the mint, and why would they do this?
-
Just got a $20 0099917
closest ive ever been to finding one.
-
I have got from the taxi driver!!!
HOC9399999
What the He!?&* I did to God this month!
-
I found HOC9333939 from a Black's photoshop. How's that for disappointing? :'(
I found BEK8605067 insert in my change a few days ago. It's in G condition.
-
Note to Sid-63: All due respect, no one at the mint would have removed a solid-numbered note from a bundle. The mint makes coins. Notes are produced by security printers. This post is intended in a constructive way, not to disparage sid-63.
-
The mint makes coins.
You are correct. But where does this elusive note end up then?
This post is intended in a constructive way, not to disparage sid-63.
Thanks for the feedback, no problem. ;)
-
But where does this elusive note end up then?
The path that notes take is as follows...
1. BABN or CBN security printers. (Notes are printed, cut and packaged)
2. Brinks/Securicor/etc. (Notes are in transportation)
3. Bank of Canada, Ottawa. (Notes are counted and repackaged)
4. Brinks/Securicor/etc. (Notes are in transportation)
5. Bank of Canada Regional Offices***, Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, etc. (Notes are held for distribution to banks local to that office)
6. Brinks/Securicor/etc. (Notes are in transportation)
7. ATMs, Banks, Stores, etc. (Notes are considered to be in circulation)
So you see, there are many opportunities for people to rifle through stacks of notes. The Royal Canadian Mint does not get involved with banknotes at all. The coins produced by the Mint are transported from Winnipeg and Ottawa to the BoC regional offices and only meet up with notes at step 5 above.
I may have unintentionally included some errors in my above listing of the path that money takes to enter circulation, but the above is my best interpretation of the events.
-
Thanks Brent...didn't know this. Interesting.
ATMs, Banks, Stores, etc. (Notes are considered to be in circulation)
So now a new question.
When we deem a note to be in "Uncirculated" condition, how is this possible if it is "circulated" from our banks?
Do we stop short of categoriziing a note "uncirculated" for both condition and means of obtaining?
-
Uncirculated applies to condition. I see no shortage of instances when cashiers take a brand new stack of bills into their till, and when they need to give one to their customer, they ruffle it up to make it easier to handle. Even though that bill has never been "circulated" as it was fresh out of a stack, its condition has just been reduced to VF.
-
Close, but no stoggie.....
HOH 6969686
:P
-
My mother has a 1973 Scenes of canada 1$ with the serial numbers 8284828 so close
You do know that is a radar note, correct?
-
Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
FES 8692966
So close to finding my first radar :P
-
I had a good one today, let it go though, $20 Aww 9999099 - 1 digit off!
-
I had a good one today, let it go though, $20 Aww 9999099 - 1 digit off!
Dang Hudson...I would have scooped that note from you!! :P
:) Jeff
-
Sorry! It came in a deposit at the bank, and I couldn't grab it. I do my best to things like that, but on busy days you just have to let them go. It hurts, but it has to happen like that sometimes. Sorry Jeff! Next time!
-
Hey no problem.
I suppose if you kept every note that came by your way that was interesting you'd probably need a second job to support yourself.
Must be fun though and a great opportunity when those hard to pass up notes come into the bank.
Have a great holiday Hudson.
Jeff
-
It's always tough, but I can't pull them out of deposits. No worries for me though, I like the new ones anyway. Had to give away 3 radars in the last two shifts! Ouch! 2x $50, and 1 x $100!
-
These are as close to a solid note as I can get. LOL...

Every month I get a frustrating bill from Mastercard. ;)
-
How about this one? From 1935. A mere 10 over...
John
OK, looks like my attachment didn't make it.
So... It's a 1935 1 in UNC with the serial number B1129221.
-
Yikes two in one day:
$100 3333433 Journey Series- I think the solid one may be floating around in Edmonton.
and
FEU 9765678 - ONE digit off a descending-ascending ladded-radar note!
-
i got six uncirculated 100 dollar journey's from the bank, can't remeber the prefix but the numbers were 2064606-2064610.....had to laugh at that one.....so close and it was a hundred.....man i wish i had a 100 dollar radar purchased at face value...o well the hunt continues
-
ALE 1181810 >:( >:( :'(
-
Got a $20 AZZ 1111137 from my brother-in-law (folded once) he didn't know...but its a keeper a couple weeks ago.
As Don says- interesting numbers should always be kept (no matter how frustrating).
Isn't that why we see so many interesting numbers for sale? I'm sure that non-collectors even put away an odd bill that think are interesting, forget about them, and then later sell them to a dealer who'll buy it because: a) its is old and probably in decent shape, and b) its got a cool number.
-
I've had this one for awhile but it still bothers me :'(
A 2001 $10 FEE 0222219 :o
-
A 2001 $10 FEE 0222219

-
Here's one that i have by chance in my change tonight, HOE6001004 only 2 away from a three digit radar, yet no loss really its in very poor condition.
-
How about this one HOD 5737373 in VF condition
-
Got a US $1 58558558
Is it a keeper?
-
Man I love this thread.
That is one digit off being a radar.

Went to an ATM last Monday and got EYY8888913 UNC. Tried a new withdraw: the numbers were going up! >:( >:( >:(

-
Ouch, the triple whammy. 8 notes away from a million serial number, 2 notes away from a rotator, and 1 note away from a 2-digit radar.
-
WOW, that one Hurts!!! Triple whammy is right!!
-
This one double frustrated me a lot.

I have a really rare note!
it's HON5347845...it's one of a kind!
just like HON0000002 is
or HON1234567 is, but maybe not as aestetically pleasing.
My point is I find it funny that near radars or near solids are becoming worth something when really they're nothing. Cudos to the guys that spend them.

All notes are basically on in amillion. Some numbers are "types" that are simply more special than random numbers. Plain and simple. :) Kudos to those that spend them, so I can find them!! ;)
-
My buddy looks for numbers for me and today he had a journey $20 with the number 2322222 in v.f. I told him to spend it.
-
This all shows that MANY really nice notes end up in Circulation (And for a long time in some cases) :o
I am glad to see the notes are not always being hoarded by someone on the inside! >:( :)
-
I agree with you you! This week my mother in law got a 1979 $20.00 unc out of the bank machine. Of course she gave it to me. Just goes to show you there is still lots out there. ;D
-
All I seem to find are frustrating bills!

I missed a SOLID radar in an ATM yesterday :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(.
I caught the number ALS3333316 (17 notes away from the soid) and the numbers went down. I was able to get ALS3333313, 3333303 and 3333300. After that , the machine spit out ALS3333499 and down. What a shame!
The story began last week, when I checked many times in this ATM and saw the possibility to get the solid because all the notes began by ALS3333***. I got some higher notes : ALS3333833, 3333633, but nothing much nearer from the wanted number. I tought that I missed the note, but this week, I made a peek yesterday morning in this ATM and got some EZK before the machine crashed (not able to make more withdraw). I came back later in the day and got the ALS3333316 and down. I never got the slightest chance to get the solid number!!
It's the first time since I collect paper money (more than 10 years) that I had a real chance to get a solid number and alas! Shame on the damned mixed-up bundles put in the ATM >:( >:( >:( >:(!!
This kind of chance occurs only once per 10 years! So, next time maybe only around year 2015... :'( :'(.
-
Who knows what might have happened if you were a half hour earlier :o
The same thing has happened to me before and I think it was almost 10 years ago so I guess pretty soon....
-
You know this would make a fascinating thread, "ATM STORIES of the Third kind" I'm sure everyone has a story. I only found an Unc $5 4-Digit radar myself from an ATM.
PD
-
Found EZW5144479, and 78 at a local ATM. Only the cup marks keep them from being perfect. I withdrew another $20 found 77. Only 63 bill to get the shoulders. Only $1260 away :D, didn't get back unitl early the next morning. It was handing out mixed bills.
-
Found in change today AOH8888874 fourteen notes from solid 8s !!

Found this note a few weeks ago, grade AU:
10$ 2005 # BEZ 1234561. ::)
-
WOW!!! :o
Ya really missed the boat on that one.... ::) Reminds me of when I get to the ATM... I have gotten about a dozen $50 and $100 notes that were 1 digit off a 2-digit radar.... :'(
-
Found this note a few weeks ago, grade AU:
10$ 2005 # BEZ 1234561. ::)
That's a frustrating one indeed. Last week I picked up a brick that began with 8807xxx. If only it was 8808xxx I would have had a nice 2 digit radar/rotator.

personally, I think the 1111000 is visually quite cool, and isn't that the whole point? To me, I like the visual often more than the technical/mathematical.
-
Yeah, I like it too!
Maybe you could call the last 2 "Binary #"! ;D

AZB8968963
[swear word removed] !!!

I think with a little ink that last digit could be easily changed. ;D

I've noticed 'binary' used on Ebay to describe any serial number with only 2 different digits in it. I like your definition better (restricting it to 1's and 0's) and think it would be a cool subset to collect. If only I could start finding some :(

ARB 7444777
Both with fp 60 bp 94

Hello everyone. I have noticed that this thread has slowed down a bit. I figure i can help revive it for a short while. Here is a set of three $20's that are close to the 5 million mark and found them at a bank machine in London, Ont. AU in my opinion as for a grade for all 3 notes. I think i will keep them anyway, because they are in great shape.
BTW, all three notes have the same FP and BP.
FP: 55
BP: 76
Here are some scans:
This one here is a scan showing the whole note with the 3 notes i found.
(http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/2200/20420234.th.jpg) (http://img696.imageshack.us/i/20420234.jpg/)
This scan here just shows the serial numbers up close.
(http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/6729/20all.th.jpg) (http://img696.imageshack.us/i/20all.jpg/)
It really grinds my gears, finding such a close note to 5,000,000, but coming up short.
Cheers, Oli

And, might I add, second time that I also missed the solid to go with it.

I work at a bank and have the habit of looking at the serial numbers as I count, hoping to find something worth keeping. The sheer amount of disappointments I've seen is unbelievable.

I got 9090660 recently. sigh...

BSR 7666661... sigh. Do you guys normally keep these notes or are they just spenders?

Spender.
Even when I get things like 3- and 4-digit radars or repeaters, unless they're UNC or AU, they go right back into circulation. (Sometimes I even add another few creases for good measure).

Here's a recent one HGK 4242421, so close and yet so far. :'(
