Title: La Banque Nationale
Post by: Bernard_Schaaf on December 05, 2013, 12:40:46 am
After several years of  working  on other projects I am now resuming my accumulation of images of notes of the charterd banks, beginning at letter N and I have a question about the 1870  $4 and $6  notes  of La Banque Nationale.  My  old  Charlton said these two notes had green backs[  but the B of C currency collection images show plain (unprinted) backs.  Was Charlton wrong?  Do the circulated notes indeed have plain backs???  Thanks fo the help.

The circulated notes have plain backs on the 1870 $4. I do not have the $6 note.  The 7th edition book lists the $4 as having a plain back and the $6 a green back.

The $6 back is correctly described as "plain", which means it is not printed.  The "Colour:  green" line is meaningless and should be expunged.  It seems to be a relic from an incompletely implemented correction to an earlier edition.  The $20, $50 and $100 following do have backs with green printing on them.
