I have five 1947 Canadian Silver Dollars, 1 of them has the Maple Leaf beside the date. Does anyone know the value....I was offered $70.00 by a collector. This made me think that it might be something special. I know condition means alot. Also, are there any other dates in Canadian Silver Dollars that are better than others.  Thank you.

That could be worth anything from $240 in VF condition to $450+ in Unc condition, it is not a bad coin at all.

If you could post a photo either here or at http://www.canadiancoin.com someone can give you a better estimate, or you can find a local club and they are usually happy to give you a quick estimate.

There are 3 other types of 1947 silver dollar: The blunt 7, pointed 7, and pointed 7 with dot. It would be worthwhile to have all 5 of yours looked at.

The best date in a silver dollar is certainly the 1948 by far, followed by the 1945 and the 1946.

Hope this helps!

You are welcome. There are also varieties of silver dollars from various years as well.

1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, the 1955 Arnprior + Arnprior with die break, 1957, 1965 all have significant variations. I would suggest getting a Charlton catalogue from a bookstore or library, or find a trustworthy dealer or collector.

If you are around Toronto there is a major show this weekend, Torex- you should be able to get lots of help there.
