Hi everyone,
You know the passion I have about the 2$ 1986 with and without large ''B''.Last week I bought around 1100 x2$ 1986 from two dealers, sometimes I found regular 2$ with BGA...to...BGZ regular notes going to my register, and when I'm lucky found BG prefix with one or two large''B''...etc.
But this week I found two interesting notes.

The first one it have to much red tint on the front and the back is regular,I grade the note not higher unc60.I take many look with all the magnifying glass I have and all tiny details are their and the both side we can see the ''gloss'' when I put it on light.

The second note on the front you can see one of the print is almost no printed(like miss red ink).I look with many  magnifying glass I have ,all relief print is perfect also the note I grade it for my part unc60,the back is perfect when you put on the light I can see the ''gloss'' on the both side.

I hope the pictures is OK and my english to.
Like I always said if you have 2$ regular in BG prefix or with one or both large ''B'' please let me know.:)
Thank you.
Claude

You won't find chartered banknotes in the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Government Bank Notes.  You need the specialized Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Bank Notes which covers all Canadian chartered bank notes.

This note is catalogued as 715-24-04 and is a 1937 $5 note from the Bank of Toronto, Henwood variety (for the signature of the General Manager).  I won't comment on the grade other than to say it looks nice.  Value in my outdated catalogue is $200 in VF, and it goes up from there.

I haven't been around to the banks too much lately as the time for a teller to count all the notes by hand has become excruciating. One-potato, two-potato. :D

Anyway, I found a 3 digit radar the other day, and today two Wilkens/Macklem INDs.

Also found Birthday or Date notes with the following numbers and one of them is FOR TOMORROW!!!  (if anyone is interested or turns 62 tomorrow pls DM me):  :D

1966 23 4     April 23, 1966
1998 6 27     June 27, 1998
1967 2 23     February 23, 1967

Cheers, Brianna

April 20th coin hunting finds:
Silver everywhere!

I went back to the same bank where I got the dime box full of 1968s last week.  They obliged me with another box and boy, this one paid out too!  I’m sure this was an accumulation dump.

I also grabbed 10 rolls of quarters just for fun.  Here’s what I found:

Lots of commemoratives
$4.20 in US clad coins
One UK 5 pence 2004
One Netherlands25 cent 1976
Lots of 1968 nickel alloy dimes
King Charles 2023 quarters and dimes.
One 2024 King Charles dime (the first one of the year for me!)
and lots of nice shiny vintage dimes.
Best of all, Six Canadian silver dimes (including one 1947 maple leaf) and one US 90% silver 1961 Philadelphia.

Enjoy!

Hmmm.  Has this one 'stumped' our experts?  I'd also like to hear about this note as I can't find it in my Charlton.  :o

April 18th finds:

Lots and lots of pennies…

I stopped by one of my banks and they had some penny rolls for me.  Since I was there and this branch no longer gives out paper money, I call this score a victory.  I also took the opportunity to pick up some rolled coins.

Stay tuned for the results!

Enjoy!
Dean

Update:
This lot contained some commemorative quarters, $2.50 in US quarters, $1.40 in US dimes,
$2.50 in nickel alloy quarters, but the highlights are:

One Australian 10c from 1981
Malaysian 5 sen from 2021
East Caribbean States 10c 2004
UK 5 pence 2015
Five King Charles 2023 quarters and one 2023 dime.
Two nice 1991 dimes
Four 1968 nickel alloy dimes
One 1969 dime
One nice 1989 dime

I admire the ability of these artisans to take an idea and create something by hand.  Artists and engravers demonstrated skills that are beautiful to look at, and collect.  Of course, modern tools are more a digital variety; however the talent is still necessary.

A few years ago I was able to look at an essay sketch drawn with pencil of The Canadian Bank of Commerce 1917 issue $10 or $20 (cannot remember which one).  This was part of early stage development material leading to the bank notes that we collectors find today.  I’m sure that sketch is unique – as is this Bank of Canada $20 essay.

I have been lucky to obtain many vignettes used on Dominion government notes as well as some early banks in Canada.  It is impressive to see vignettes in different stages of completion.  Engravers sometimes created similar vignettes using the same foreground and changing the background for example.  In others, a small detail would be changed such as a dragon's tail curling right instead of left.

This is a part of our hobby that (thankfully!) doesn’t draw too much attention of $$$.

Any suggestion of value or grade, as well as the Charlton Number for this note?

Thanks
