March 30th Easter weekend coin hunting finds:

I searched through three boxes of dimes over the last couple of days and found…

69 US
2x UK 5 pence
1/2 Franc from Switzerland
10c from Bermuda
2017 commemoratives,
2021 Bluenose under sail
21 x 1968 nickel alloy dimes
And…one silver dime dated 1953!

I returned the three boxes of coins to one branch and went to a different branch to ask for old paper money.  While they had no paper, this branch did give me one more box of dimes.  Let’s see if there’s something good inside!

March 28th finds:

I managed to pick up a few paper notes from my bank today.  While I was there, I got three boxes of dimes and some regular spending cash.  To my surprise, I got a nice $20 repeater out of the bank machine.

Enjoy!

They make errors like this all the time.  Even when I give them all the info in a spreadsheet they still manage to make all kinds of mistakes.  I have some Chartered Bank notes that were supposedly issued in 1990!  You should be able to get it reslabbed for free although you'll probably have to pay for shipping and insurance.

+1
Yes, they will fix it but you have to "pay the piper" in getting it there & back. If you lived in the US it would be slightly easier/cheaper. I got a few errors on my bulk batch (50) too (& they will remain like that).  Just P coding so not as a big deal. They must have some primitive software where the certifier needs to check the correct boxes (& he/she checked the wrong 1) for such an error to be printed like that.

Check out the error on this one. Should be BC-48a Bouey Rasminsky signatures. They got the serial number right though  :D

I think I see what you mean. Interesting.

I see it on one of mine but not the other. I have no idea what it is. Here's a pic:

What is interesting is that of the mutilated polymer notes, the majority of them are $5s $20s and $50s. Again, not at all surprising since $20s and $5s are heavily used.

I expect to see more mutilated $50s as time goes by.  As inflation continues, I expect for the $50s to become the new "workhorse" denomination.
Makes sense with the $5 note, as that is the smallest existing banknote denomination currently in circulation.  The smallest banknote is likely to be the most heavily used.  However, in Newfoundland, where I live, $20s seem to last longer and are very rarely worn out - that could explain why I saw no new $20s for years now.  The $50 seems to get passed through so few hands in my province too - for now.  I find that the low-demand denominations (especially $10 notes) tend to last longer because of being passed through so few hands - it makes sense as to why vending machines have no problem accepting $10 notes, but rarely accepting $5 notes.  I also wouldn't be surprised if we see the $50 take over as the "workhorse" denomination in a few years' time if inflation continues the way it's going and the $20 note's decline continues.  And banknotes that were hard to come by for several decades may start becoming quite common.
