Hi there, anyone know what an uncirculated mint 1954 $1.00 note, serial # * V V 4400500, signed by Beattie/Ramunsky might be worth?  Thanks for any help you can give. 

A GEM uncirculated 1954 *V/V replacement note sold privately back in November 2006 for
about CDN $13,500 (*V/V5503999).

Current 2007 19th Edition catalogue price for this note in UNC is CDN $8,250

Tell me, does this note belong to you? Did you at least know that this was the rarest 1954 note known replacement.  I would love to have a *V/V in my collection. For 1954 (modified)  Its one of the only replacements missing in my collection, that and *C/I

Yes, I own the note.  I have heard that it is a rare note.  It just came to light yesterday really.  I pulled it out of safekeeping...after 34 years,  and mentioned it to a collector, who gave me a bogus value on it, so I thought I would try my luck here.  I have a few other notes I might post, just for curiosity.

Was the person who gave you a lowball  price on the note a so called reputable dealer.  If He/she is well know, it would ashame to have others taken for a ride when they in fact try to find a true value on something and are intentionally mislead!!
If so Please PM me.  It is good information to know for others with future dealings!

Nice note. I would be curious to see high resolution pictures of the ENTIRE note. Corners and edges are very important and many of them seem to be missing from your pictures.

The note sold for exactly $13,500 not "for about".

As the buyer of this note I would like to mention that the note was stellar.  It was graded UNC 63 and is now in a private collection.

I physically examined the 1954 $1 Bouey-Rasminsky, *V/V4400500 replacement note today.

The note was pulled from a bundle of 1954 $1 notes over 35 years ago and stored in an bank envelope
ever since.  It was stored with a number of other notes and not in a mylar or acetate sleeve.

The note is definately original and authentic with good embossing and no evidence of processing.

The note has discoloured with time and has a cream colour to the paper.  The note has signs of
handling including a moderate counting flick, corner push and some minor edge defects.  The note would
conservatively grade AU and possibly AU/UNC, depending on who grades it.  There are no folds, creases
or tears in the note.

I took a halogen desk light with me and showed the owner of the note all the nuances of the note and
explained the grading process with her.  I recommended that she get at least 2 more grading opinions
before making any decision on the sale of the note.
