Title: Favorite Canadian Banknotes
Post by: techwriter on February 16, 2016, 11:37:51 am
This is one of my favorite Canadian banknotes.  Had it for nearly 30 years and finally decided to have it graded and preserved.

Wow, very interesting note in that it is denominated in dollars. Those would have been Spanish dollars at the time.

A few more of my favorites.  Never gave much thought to Chartered banks until I "found" these recently in
a couple of auctions.  First note has a 6 digit serial number; the second has a 7 digit number.  Are there records
anywhere that would give highest/lowest numbers for these and years printed?

Issue Date is engraved on the note as Jan. 2nd, 1935.

The $10 issue was note numbered from 00001 to 2317000 (2317001 to 2700000 were printed but never issued).

After many years I decided to have these graded and preserved.  Purchased them at the 1981 CNA Convention in Toronto.

Unfortunately the one note does not have PMG's EPQ designation.

"PMG uses the designation Exceptional Paper Quality (EPQ) for notes that, in the opinion of PMG graders, are original. By original, we mean that a note has not been physically, chemically, or materially processed to lend the appearance of a higher grade."

If you contact them, they can tell you exactly why it did not receive this designation...(if you want to know)

The main reason the VF25 note did not get EPQ is that PMG does not give the EPQ designation to any note graded under VF30.  They say on their website that they do, but in reality, I've yet to see anything less than VF30 get the designation.  I think they must have recently changed their policy, though whether the policy is in practice is another matter.

Another of my favorite Canadian banknotes, obviously an unsigned remainder.  Themes are great: trains, ships,  multi-lingual denomination
identifications, coin picture.

Who would have thought that the BMO Toronto branch would become the Hockey Hall of Fame building today?!

Wow, since I'm not a hockey fan I didn't know about the change.

coinsplus,  Thanks, you got me to searching around about the Hall of Fame and I "found" this site.  Increased my limited hockey
knowledge by 100%.  It's always satisfying to learn more about vignettes that appear on notes in one's collection. Thanks again.
