Good day fellow collectors! Nice site by the way...I just spent about an hour looking through the site and I am impressed with the professionalism and the friendly participation. I have recently started to dive back into collecting after about a 25 year absence relatively speaking. Technology has sure changed for the better to help collectors better understand the hobby.

I have had in my possession for about 30+ years a 1911 one dollar note...
I would say Fine/Very Fine on the face and Good on the back. It looks as though when it was folded twice and put in someones wallet back in the day, the back was worn greater and rubbed away some of the ink...fortunately the face looks reasonably good.

There is some ink writing on the left front that says:
"Presented to H. W. Fraser By Duke of Connaught Halifax NS Aug 24, 1916"

I am certain that without any significant provenance that this note would be further devalued because of the ink writing. I have looked for any significance to "H. W. Fraser" but haven't found anything. I don't imagine the old Duke would have kept an itinerary for us to look at!! Anybody want to take a stab at the inscription and the value?

Thanks again

Welcome to the forum and back to this great hobby.

Sorry I can't  help on the price, as my bible (Charlton) is at home.

But as for the Duke:

Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1850 - 1942) served as Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of the Dominion of Canada 13 Oct 1911 - 11 Nov 1916.  He became a Field Marshall and held several high commands. Born at Buckingham Palace on 1st May 1850, the third son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

Not sure who H. W. Fraser is, but I would have to guess it was most likely a soldier at the time.

So I would have to say that this is a good ink mark/writing on the note.

Green line or black line will not effect the value on this note.

The value of this note will be determined by the graffiti, this is a very specialized area of collecting and I'm not sure how much it would be worth.

The Duke of  Connaught is pictured on the 1914 $2 note.

Coincidence, I just got around to scanning some of my bills this morning. So here is my scan. Any thoughts as to the grade would be appreciated as I'm still pretty new at this.

Thanks

Rod

Very Nice Note!

I would say around a AU+

Just my opinion, I suggest you get other opinions as well just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the comments! I think mine is a green line...it is similiar to the one pictured by Kelownaguy...would that be a green line? By the way, yours looks like it's close to unc condition judjing by the pics. Nice clean note..well centered.

I think I may visit the Halifax archives and see if there was any significance to the inscription...you never know.

Thanks again folks.....

It's a black line (the line in question is the one between the "green" signature panel and the rest of the field (about 1/4 of the way up from the bottom)

Can someone let me know what the new catalogue value of the "Black Line" is? I haven't gotten my copy yet.

Thanks

the note is a P series (DC-18d - Black line, series letter follows sheet number, no hyphen). The "C" on the note is the check letter (Plate position)
