Title: $5 JPH
Post by: moneycow on February 18, 2007, 01:13:31 pm
Is the "only one known" JPH $5, listed in Charlton, an actual note or an image of a note?

In the "Art and Design of Canadian Bank Notes" book there are images of proposed notes for the $5, $10 and $20 (none of which made the final cut) all having the serial number JHS2912607.

This is an actual note, it was sold to a  member of the press that noticed that it was different from all the rest during the ceremony for the release of the new journey series. I'll see if I can find a pic later today.

If you have never gone to Paul Wallis's main site of canadian paper money it is worth a visit and informitive, I think there is some info on the JHS note there somewhere. Here is the link.

From what I understand it might have been one of the Internal Test Notes that ended up on display.

The Reporter who bought it was also a collector and picked up on the unusual prefix VERY quickly.  :o

Lucky guy bought one of the rarest Journey $5 Notes in existence!  :)

Also as a point of correction the prefix was JHS.

Bob has corrected this mis-print for the 20th Edition.

JHS2912607

Odd.  Same serial numbers as the images for other proposed notes.

The 2001 $5 Journey Note with the serial number JHS2912607 (the only known example in private hands) was offered for sale  privately to a select group of collectors and dealers in January 2007.  The letter below from the Bank of Canada was included with the banknote as part of the sale.

The actual invitation from the Bank of Canada to the unveiling of the $5 Journey note was also included as part of the sale.  I will post an image of it shortly.

This is the invitation that was issued to the unveiling of the $5 Journey note at which the JHS2912607 was inadvertinely issued to a member of the press.
