You know how I'm creazy about large ''B'' in 2$ 1986.I will share with you my last discovery.

The first one is I finaly found a radar with one large ''B'' on the left side in BGR prefix 3376733 and I also have the next radar 3377733 but no large ''B' on this one.

The second is on replacement BBX.For now I found BBX 0907097 with two small ''B'' and the one I have more near for now it's BBX 0784365 with two large ''B''.I think before 0900000 they are all large ''B'' and after turn to small ''B''like the BBP prefix,they start with all two large ''B'' and somewhere over 3million turn to two small ''B''.And what was my surprise when I found a BBX 3476975 with one large ''B on the left and small ''B'' on the right.

The last for now it's a prefix I never imagine it could be have this kind of variety it's on a BUJ prefix with large ''B'' on the left  and small on the right
You don't imagine how many 2$ I saw until for now,many thousand only this week end it's 1000 x2$ 1986.
If you have 2$ 1986 with prefix who start with BG..A to Z and with and without large ''B''I really apreciate if you let me information it's for my registery.More information I have better it's for me to maybe imagine where the range is?

I went to my regular branch on Friday afternoon and was able to intercept the mutilated notes before they got sent out.  Unfortunately, the psycho bank manager again hand-crushed what would otherwise have been UNC notes.  This has been happening for a long time and I always knew there would come a day when he 'crushed' something really valuable and that day has come.  See photo of $50 T-C EHX (below 1.7m) issue 800K.  I am a deeply "disappointed" customer. 

I got the EHX and an EHT both UNC and crushed, and a couple of multi colour $50s EHH and EHM, both EF and crushed.  An EF $2 CBB repeater, a nice UNC ATV $10, an AU $20, and a couple of $5s HOK pre-security) and HPL.

After I picked up the notes I met some friends at a restaurant and the entire time, the obnoxious odour of Patchouli was 'wafting' from my purse to the point that people were mentioning it.  When I got home, I removed all the notes from my purse and within minutes the entire room was overwhelmed with unbelievably strong Patchouli to the point I was coughing and had to put the notes, my purse, and my note carrier, all in plastic bags and seal them up.

In my opinion, if these notes had this incredibly strong smell on them while they sat in drawers, or a safe at the bank, anyone near-by would have been over-whelmed/affected by it, and given the fact that this branch has a 'resident psycho manager' who can't 'crush' ALL the notes, and likely thinks making them smelly is an alternate way of making them undesirable for collecting, it is my opinion this 'scent' got onto the notes while they were in the bank, shortly before they were given to me. 

Can ANY bank note hunters please chime in -- have you EVER gotten a single, or multiple notes from a bank that had an over-whelming smell on them?

That's interesting Claude. Thanks for your input.  It reminded me of another problem I had with our shows in the GTA.

Only Don Olmstead had Scenes of Canada, Birds & Journey notes for sale. A few other had a few Scenes of Canada but rarely any Birds or Journey series notes (esp the missing prefixes that we were all interested in).  Me (& my buddies) who went to these shows kept asking the other dealers (the few who dealt banknotes) to add more of the recent series & they all looked at us like we were morons. 

Finally, I asked Don "why do the other dealers ignore the more recent series?"
He told me, "they cater to US collectors who are only interested in the Sweetheart series."
"The Sweetheart series?" I asked.
"Yeah, the first three Bank of Canada series: 1935, 37 & 54". (He elaborated that they were interested in the Modified but far more interested in the Devil Face series too).
He then told me that the book values (we saw in Charlton) were more driven by US collectors (World demand) rather than a few Canadian collectors. It all made sense but was infuriating at the time.

It's the same thing at MTL.they bring a few notes and when you ask for bird series notes they never had only older notes.What I do at every show at Mtl,one week before I call all dealears I know they came at the show and ask them if they want to bring notes I'm looking for.Not all but few of them accept to bring more notes.Today at the show I looked over 3000x1$ 1973 to take a look on the small ''B'' variety and 2000x2$ 1986 for the variety of large ''B''.In the 1$ I found nothing but in 2$ I found many things and I'll show my discovery next days on this website.I also found thing for Dean.

TOREX is located too far out of the way for a growing number of collectors who do not (or can no longer) drive a car.  In its current location by the airport, TOREX is not close to the TTC subway line and many people are not willing to spend hours travelling by bus to get to the venue.

That's me: I wouldn't drive out there to pay for parking & then to pay to go into see dealers wanting to sell you overpriced coins (& if you're lucky) banknotes.  When I attended TO shows 20 years ago you could take the GO train into TO downtown (& walk) but that's no longer an option. There were only a few dealers who carried banknotes.

I can't imagine what the bus route would involve so I haven't even considered attending. Back then I could haggle re: the sales tax (but not any more).  When I attend a show its usually to meet some fellow collectors (&/or buy supplies) since buying notes online is so much cheaper. I think that's essentially killing shows b/c they're mostly just about the bourse (& selling collectors coins/notes) which can be done so much cheaper online. They lack an education element like the RCNA workshops.

When I went to Torex 20 years ago there were the odd legendary paper dealer like Don Olmstead. These guys were friendly & would talk shop & teach us a few things (or 2).   These days there's just coin dealers (& all the non-circulating coins, junk tokens, etc) who don't know how to grade a banknote if their life depended on it & have zero interest in what I'm interested in. Fortunately, there are more women involved but I think the old guard still dominate things (at their peril).

A fourth 1954 $2 K/R no back plate number (no BPN) has been found and has been added to my note register.

A major online auction company in Quebec City includes this note in their upcoming sale, Session 2 on April 21st.  Lot #460 offers “no BPN” K/E 1756860 graded Legacy VF 20.

These notes continue to be elusive and someone with sharp eyes another found one.  Keep looking!

March 14th finds:

One of my banks called me to pick up some pennies.  When I arrived, the teller gave me 4 bank bags worth of them!

While I was there, I asked for paper money and the teller let me pick through the pile.  I chose three journey $100s and one journey $20.  The highlight is the pair of EJZ prefix $100s.
