Nice note on EBAY, for those of you with deep pockets

1954 Bank Canada $10 Devil's Face Replacement PMG 67 Item number: 270164791529

That was my note until recently....a real beauty.  Sold it to Don Olmstead at the TICF last weekend.  In fact
I sold him all my PMG graded Devil's Face replacements except for the $5 which I kept as part of my collection.

The notes that were sold to Don were:

1954 $1 Devil's Face Beattie-Coyne, *A/A               *A/A 0016707         PMG GUnc 65           BC-29bA

1954 $2 Devil's Face Beattie-Coyne, *A/B               *A/B 0008422         PMG GUnc 65           BC-30bA

1954 $10 Devil's Face Beattie-Coyne, *A/D             *A/D 0008243         PMG GUnc 67           BC-32bA

1954 $20 Devil's Face Beattie-Coyne, *A/E              *A/E 0008231         PMG GUnc 66          BC-33bA


In my view all the notes were accurately graded by PMG.  This is based on independent grading done by
several prominent paper money graders prior to the notes being sent to PMG.

Yes what a note!  Arthur you have some amazing notes in your collection. Just when I think you can't get any better you always amaze me. WOW that is a real gem. What else has Arthur got up his sleeves???

I could only wish that those notes were duplicates in my collection.

Although it hurt deeply to sell those notes, the funds were required for a very special purpose.  I have an
opportunity to purchase a 1935 $50 and $100 English in original UNC (counting flicks) with matched low
serial number 11.

I did however keep the the $5 Devil's Face replacement which came back PMG Unc 67.

That sounds like a great trade off Arthur.  '35's rule!   If you would be so kind as to post a photo of the '35 $100 in the forum somewhere.  I did see a VF, but have never beheld an Unc., let alone a low #!

Yikes, I can see the dilemna
But I think in light of whats coming back your way you caqn't go wrong
Afterall the 35's are the darlings of the BOC series.

I have been back collecting for about 3 years now and have managed only one Devils replacement. F/VF Coyne Towers $ 1. The higher grade ones are just too expensive for me.

I have an opportunity to purchase a 1935 $50 and $100 English in original UNC (counting flicks) with matched low serial number 11.

I recall owning a Gem Unc original pair of $50 & $100 FRENCH text notes (not matching serial numbers though) back in the late 1970's but I couldn't afford to keep them for very long. I recall that they cost me about $3000 each, which was a great deal of money at the time. However, I should have made a greater effort to keep them for the long term as even then they were of legendary rarity in that condition. I should at least have kept a photo or photocopy of them .....

They always say that "junk will always be junk" and that is very true. However, type rarities and condition rarities (and to a lesser extent date and signature rarities) will always continue to appreciate relentlessly in value but it took me over 20 years to fully appreciate that fact.
