I rarely see new prefixes these days. I agree that new prefixes are a hit or miss these days due to being slowly trickled into circulation. This is what happens when ordering bundles of new bills becomes very expensive, and banks realize it's a lot cheaper to trickle out a few new bills mixed in with mostly recycled bills.
This trend has been happening with $20s for some years now and had evolved to the $50s and now $100s. The rollout of many of the HJ* prefixes on the $100 has been quite slow so far (except for HJA). HJB was finally released after such a long time (until HJB, much of the HJ* prefixes were released in B.C. and the Prairies, and they may now be starting to appear in Ontario), and HJD is the only outstanding Lane/Macklem prefix yet to be released.
