I know that the device that prints the serial number are individual adjusted, but what about the prefix? is it possible for a missing letter?
Reason I ask is because I found a $20 Journey with one missing letter and a single digit mismatch serial.
How'd something like that happen?

I believe that both the Prefix and the Serial number wheels are individually adjusted because of the APF/APE prefix mismatched notes that were found.
Could you please provide a picture of the banknote that you found along with the BPN and FPN for the Journey notes mismatched serial number registry?

I'll try to get a scan of the image tmr, I got classes and work afterwards, so not 100% sure when it would be posted.

That is a very nice error note. It has a missing prefix letter and a 1 digit mismatch. It is a 2006 note but does not look circulated much. Definitely a print error.
I can see that the BPN is 33 could you please provide the FPN for the mismatched serial number registry.

47/33

So would this be an E17 error?

E15 and E17?
That's a great find!

Yes. Just look at all the AOZ/BPZ $5 notes in the register.
