Title: possible journey 5 error
Post by: Dean on July 06, 2007, 09:56:06 am
Hi,

I received this note in change yesterday.  AOY8336803.  The design under the holographic stripe seems to be missing.  Also the intaglio printing of the number 5 and coat of arms is weak.  On the rest of the note, the intaglio is normal.  Notice the grey bands on either side of the white strip.  The note is in Fine condition, well circulated with creases and soiling.  Is it possible for the strip to be removed via washing?

Is this note a keeper?
Opinions are welcome!

Dean.

Another member found the same error also.... But it was in a Brick. If I remember correctly It was also very close in AOY as well. Might have been from the same sheet.

I would say keep it. Error are so difficult to find with BAI Printed notes.

I found one in a brick a while back yet none of the others in the brick were affected.

You can strip off part of a security stripe by washing it with some dishwasher detergent or other cleansing agent.

I think this note has faced misuse and abuse (possibly with some dirt). Somehow there are white borders around the stripes when they're rubbed against something.

Does this note have the varnish?

yes it does...the note appears normal except for the strip.  It is heavily circulated but it seems odd nonetheless.

Hi Friedsquid,

Did you happen to keep the serial number of your note?  It would be interesting to see how close the 2 notes are.

I too am very curious.

As for the Varnish notes.. Yes, around AOG 6.6 the notes have varnish and every prefix from there have the varnish.

Here is the note from Friedsquid. The note is AOT8842916 and is UNC, with the impression of the 5 and the coat of arms very visable.

I picked up an AOY 8322122 lightly circulated it also is missing some of the blue background but only the length of the word canada at the top of the bill. I recieved about 40 $5's today inc. an AOK 1840017 that is identicle to the scan provided by Dean but the grey line to the left has a distinct darker center line.
