yes but the condition and the top right squiggle decreases its value however ive never seen it before so rarity could increse its value to more than $10.

Actually, I'd be willing to bet the note is counterfeit. What is the serial number on it?
May I offer a guess that the serial number starts with WER?
-
I second that one Brent.
-
the serial number is PKR5856890
-
The prefix confirms that it is a counterfeit note.
-
Definitely a counterfeit. Mail it to me so I can add it to my collection! ;D

any idea how that error occured?

First of all, it's not an error. It is a counterfeit note. I have one that has the same "doubling up" on the left edge, including the same plate number. Someone just did a crappy job when they copied thei $10. I'd love to add that to my collection ;)

so what should i do with the note now, puting it back into circulation wouldnt be right and if i gave it to the bank then i would be losing 10 dollars even though technicaly its not 10 dollars ?

Sounds like a good option if you charge $10 for it ;)

In cases where I have obtained a counterfeit note from an ATM machine, (same bank twice), I simply notified the bank the next day and they agreed to exchange it for a new one each time.( I almost think they were getting suspicous) You will be required to provide details of the transaction that you received it in. Date, time, teller/machine receipt if kept. Finally you will be asked to provide name, address, phone number. So if you don't want it, you can get your $10.00 dollars. Just make sure whoever agrees to take this note off your hands is aware that the bill is a counterfeit note first.

Hey! Actually, doing so would be illegal.
Your LEGAL options are:
- Turn the note in to your local police
- Keep it
- Mail it to me so I can use it to help teach others about spotting fakes.
I recommend the last option. (Seriously!)

Actually i noticed right away that its counterfeit. Just look on the bottom left corner. The plate number was printed twice.

@ JB-2005: That was the source of the question as to how the alleged "error" occurred.
@ Skylark: Check the actual legislation. Your reference isn't entirely accurate. It is merely what the police and the Bank of Canada WANT you to do.
Section 457 of the Criminal Code of Canada states:
- No person shall make, publish, print, execute, issue, distribute or circulate, including by electronic or computer-assisted means, anything in the likeness of
- a current bank note; or
- an obligation or a security of a government or bank.
- Subsection (1) does not apply to
- the Bank of Canada or its employees when they are carrying out their duties;
- the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or its members or employees when they are carrying out their duties; or
- any person acting under a contract or licence from the Bank of Canada or Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
- A person who contravenes subsection (1) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.
- No person shall be convicted of an offence under subsection (3) in relation to the printed likeness of a Canadian bank note if it is established that the length or width of the likeness is less than three-fourths or greater than one-and-one-half times the length or width, as the case may be, of the bank note and
- the likeness is in black and white only; or
- the likeness of the bank note appears on only one side of the likeness.
