A very nice Bank of Montreal $100 1923 note (Sheet # 010423, Plate D) will be auctioned on May 02, 2009 by All Nations Stamp & Coin in Vancouver, BC. The current bid is $3,400.00. It's described as being a Choice EF (see scan). Since I'm out of town I cannot check whether this is a previously unrecorded note or not.

The note was just added to the register on 16 April 2009. It seems to have kept a very low profile until then.

Hammer price $4,600... nice original note; probably EF45..

The $100 face value was an immense amount of money in the 1920's/1930's and is by no means an insignificant amount today. When you think about it, rare early Canadian bank notes are still very cheap at current price levels ......
