Title: What happened to the J-D $10 bills ?
Post by: Philippe_B on January 09, 2005, 08:11:16 pm
Many months have passed since BER and BES were issued and we have not seen anything new.

Personnaly I think we will never see BEL, BEN, BEM, and BEP for many reasons :

I heard the company who is printing BES and BER starts to print the last prefix of the order first. We have seen BKF many months before BKA.

At the branch were I work we just received an UNC bundle of FEA, a 2 year old prefix, and I heard other banks also receive old prefixes.

The new $10 might come sooner then we think and BABN might have received instructions to stop the production immediately. They are probably printing the new $10 right now.

I guess BER might be the next FDY. Also, there will be a small premium for BES notes. I'm OK because I had the opportunity to buy BES 7737377. ;D

I would like to hear the opinions of other collectors on this topic ! :)

In my opinion, the 2001 $10 is now a retired series. I have great doubts that we'll see any new prefix show up on the 2001 $10. Sometime this year we'll see the new 2005 $10 series released and this should bear the prefix BEU, BEV, BEW, BEY, BEZ BTA onward.

BER seems more like FDZ than FDY, because FDY only released the first 2.4-2.5 Million, whereas FDZ released only 9 Million or greater.  Most of the BER's are higher-numbered notes.

Is there any reason why you didn't mention BET?  ???

And who knows?  We might see the 2005 version begin with prefix FEP.   ::)  Only time will tell.

I also think the demand for $10 bills has a lot to do with it.  But you're right, we should be seeing the "new" $10 soon. :)
