Title: Upcoming prefixes
Post by: AZ on December 18, 2008, 08:09:57 am
Any ideas what new prefixes will follow $5 APZ, $10 BTZ, and $20 ARZ?

The only recycled denominational letters possible that remain are A, B, C, F, G, and U.  I have a hunch that AUA (which once appeared on the $2 bills of 1986) will follow APZ on the $5s.  After ARZ they may backtrack to the earlier denominational letters with AA*, AB*, etc., or they may go to BA*, BB*, etc.  There's usually around a 20 year gap between the release of the prefixes on the $1 and $2 bills and on a current denomination, so it's highly unlikely we will see AA*, AB*, etc. since those prefixes were first seen nearly 30 years ago, but anything is possible.

As for the $10 bill, seeing that the $10 has been falling into decline for many years now, I wouldn't be one bit surprised if they choose not to recycle a retired denominational letter and go back to the earliest denominational letter for that specific denomination - which is "D" - and go to CDA after BTZ.  If we see CDA, that may be a sign that the end may be nearing for our beloved purple banknote, though it may not be formally announced until thereafter.

My prediction for the new prefixes is BN
  CBN $5 1986 EN - EO - EP - FN - FO - FP- GN - GO - GP- HN
  CBN $5 2001                                                             HN - HO -  GP
BABN $5 2001 AN - AO
BAI   $5 2001         AO - AP - BN - BO - BP - CN - CO - CP

Now that we are leaving the first month in 2010, we know the end of the current Journey Series will be fast approaching, may be in the next year or two.

With the newly reported $20 prefix of EUW, what would the next $20 prefix be after EUZ?  My guess is it would be FIA, FIB.......; and with so many $20 sitting in the inventory, I would expect to see them in a completely New Series after the end of the Journey.

Also with a new Deputy Governor coming in after April to replace Jenkins, I believe we may not even see his new signature on Journey notes at all?

Still a year or two! Wow, I thought it was sooner then that. It feels like they will never arrive.

It seems clear what new prefixes will be on fives and tens for some time. As to fifties, I wonder if FM* will be followed by EM* and AH* by AM*, and in the case of hundreds, EJ* by EK* and BK* by AK*.

I expect that on the 20's after EUZ which is not far away we will see EBA
For the ten, after BFZ will go to BGA
The Five, after AAZ perhaps ACA

So FIA $20 surfaced just as I thought they would.

However I never thought they would show up in Journey Series. Now wonder what prefix the polymer $20 will start with?  ???

Yes i think this is the latest prefix for the BABN $20. The CBN $20 is now at prefix FIA.

I still have yet to see an ARW  >:( .  However, by openly stating this here, and knowing that Murphy's Law applies to everything I do, I will undoubtedly find one very soon.  8)

As an avid Willier and Paper Money Collector, I have always kept a close eye for new prefixes and the SNDB has raised the excitement a few notches for me.

I was able to add a few more low #s to the list today and got my first FIJ $20s!
