Title: Found FVP W-P in change at RCNA bourse
Post by: Rupiah on August 16, 2018, 06:54:53 pm
I made some transactions at the RCNA bourse. Part of the transaction I received several 20's in change.

There were two FVP W-P VF condition. I was rather surprised as I have not found them in circulation in the GTA.

I believe the vendor with whom I made the transaction was from Quebec. I am wondering if these were common in Quebec.

One person from Quebec was selling FVP W-P in VF condition for $60 about 6 months ago. Not sure if I got lucky or these are not worth more than face now in anything but UNC.

As part of my job, I've handled a few W-P FVP this spring, although most were in F-VF grade. The one I kept in my collection is EF.
I'm in Quebec, but I don't know if they are common here, or if I was just lucky...

I found 3 in the past year (not UNC but higher grade) so I don't think they were just released in Quebec (I'm in GTA area) & I don't think they should command much of a premium in F-VF.  But that was after several large 100X withdrawals (i believe I found most around the end of 2017 beginning of 2018).  So I took out several $1000 to find them.

My suspicion is that some collector brought these to the RCNA to see if he/she could trade or sell them.  When the person discovered no interest, or saw something they wanted to buy, they used them.  I have to confess that I have done this many times and used either older circulated inserts/radars or UNC currency that I was holding (then found to be common/so they were used in a purchase).

I have come across these notes since the SNDB has gone down.  I have been logging notes to a notepad file until the SNDB is back up.  By not having the database, i didn't even realize these were the changeover notes.  Hopefully they get it back up soon.

FVP 1994798 12 12
FVP 2170930 31 31

Just to clarify- the above notes are with the Macklem/Carney M-C signature combination & are quite common (not the Wilkins-Poloz (W-P) signature which is what this thread is about)

I have also recorded a large number of the first M-C signature combination notes in the SNDB.

That is the note this thread is about.  Notes with SN above 8964000 will have the W-P signatures (& are the change-over).  I believe the numbers are spread out but not sure what type of ranges were released (when the SNDB went down).

I'm in Thunder Bay and according to my own data I have found two FVP9- so far, one in May and one in July. With this small quantity, I feel like I can say with confidence that none were released in the Thunder Bay-Winnipeg region, and the two I've found found their way to me by hitchhiking in wallets. :p
