Title: 2$ 1986 with printing error
Post by: Cbeaulieu on April 22, 2024, 09:16:53 pm
Hi everyone,
You know the passion I have about the 2$ 1986 with and without large ''B''.Last week I bought around 1100 x2$ 1986 from two dealers, sometimes I found regular 2$ with BGA...to...BGZ regular notes going to my register, and when I'm lucky found BG prefix with one or two large''B''...etc.
But this week I found two interesting notes.

The first one it have to much red tint on the front and the back is regular,I grade the note not higher unc60.I take many look with all the magnifying glass I have and all tiny details are their and the both side we can see the ''gloss'' when I put it on light.

The second note on the front you can see one of the print is almost no printed(like miss red ink).I look with many  magnifying glass I have ,all relief print is perfect also the note I grade it for my part unc60,the back is perfect when you put on the light I can see the ''gloss'' on the both side.

I hope the pictures is OK and my english to.
Like I always said if you have 2$ regular in BG prefix or with one or both large ''B'' please let me know.:)
Thank you.
Claude

On your first note what stood out to me was the fact that I could not see any planchets.  Then I thought that the Crow-Bouey notes were the first signature combo and might not have had planchets so I checked the ones that I have in my collection and they do have faint planchets.

This makes your note odd.

I'm just curious, I've never heard of any Bank of Canada notes (except possibly test notes), up until the Journey series, that did not have planchettes. My understanding is that that is a characteristic of the paper supplied by Howard Smith & Co. / Domtar. Were there exceptions?

Hi,
Today I used my black light on the 2$(with extra red tint) without planchets and nothings appear on the front side.On the back side I do not sew plachets but with the black light and two little round appear like the same size of planchet but no planchet is visible, with my 10x magnifying glass I saw something inside the circle looks like a triangle? In 1974 2$ they have two prefix with a modified tint and original tint.Is this possible it could be something like that in 2$ 1986??I do not sew the both 2$ 1974 with and without original tint to sew the difference .The thing I realize about the large quantity of 2$ 1986 I saw it's the BABN printer are more red(tint) than the CBN printer.
If you have information about that,I apreciate if you share it with us.
Thank you.
Claude
