Hello everyone, first off i'd just like to compliment this forum, i've been silently lurking for a couple days looking around and reading some interesting threads. This looks to be a very knowledgeable place, and a very long story short - i am looking for knowledge. i have a book on order currently that should help me out, but currently i'm trying to catalog a bunch of stuff i've recently inherited.

i definitely want to try and put values, or atleast a ballpark value on everything i have so i can get a sense of what i'm dealing with. i was sorting through some stuff today and i came across 25 various 'Specimen' bills, different denominations, from 1937 - 1991. all look to be in excellent condition, and some look to have been graded (sticker with year/details/UNC) already. i know my grandpa as well, and with each bill in their sleeve, they wouldn't have been touched or fondled by him.

anyway, here is the list that accompanied the 25 bills:

1937 1$ - J/M 0000000
1937 2$ - X/B 0000000
1937 5$ - U/C 0000000
1937 10$ - W/D 0000000
1937 20$ - E/E 0000000
1937 50$ - B/H 0000000
1937 100$ - B/J 0000000
1937 1000$ - A/K 0000000

1954 5$ - A/C 0000000
1954 10$ - A/D 0000000

1969 20$ - EA0000000
1971 10$ - DA0000000
1972 5$ - CA0000000
1973 1$ - AA0000000
1974 2$ - BA0000000
1975 50$ - HA0000000
1975 100$ - JA0000000
1979 5$ - 00000000000
1979 20$ - 00000000000

1986  2$ - ARG0000000
1986  5$ - ENA0000000
1986 10$ - ADA0000000
1986 20$ - EIA0000000
1986 50$ - EHP0000000
1986 100$ - AJN0000000

so, there is the list with serials, i would appreciate any feedback that might be able to give me an idea of the value here, low or high :)

thank you :)

1937 1$ - J/M 0000000 = $2,200
1937 2$ - X/B 0000000 = $1,200
1937 5$ - U/C 0000000 = $1,200
1937 10$ - W/D 0000000 = $1,200
1937 20$ - E/E 0000000 = $1,200
1937 50$ - B/H 0000000 = $1,200
1937 100$ - B/J 0000000 = $1,200
1937 1000$ - A/K 0000000 = $4,400

 Or $15,500 for the set

1954 5$ - A/C 0000000 = $400
1954 10$ - A/D 0000000 = $400

I think 1954's sell for more though.

1969 20$ - EA0000000
1971 10$ - DA0000000
1972 5$ - CA0000000
1973 1$ - AA0000000
1974 2$ - BA0000000
1975 50$ - HA0000000
1975 100$ - JA0000000
1979 5$ - 00000000000
1979 20$ - 00000000000

These are valued at $1,300 per set but I think these sell for less.

1986  2$ - ARG0000000
1986  5$ - ENA0000000
1986 10$ - ADA0000000
1986 20$ - EIA0000000
1986 50$ - EHP0000000
1986 100$ - AJN0000000

This set is valued at $850.

Hope this helps, Gary_T

I think the 1937 $1000 would be worth more than $4,400

actually i wanted to ask, in terms of those 1937 bills, obviously a set with each denomination there, but in terms of selling currency, where would someone get the higher value... selling individually to the 'right' buyer, or selling the set to the 'right' buyer?

just looking for some feedback on this, i was wondering..

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

I personally think that it is best to keep the set together and sell as a set. This will save you time, money and aggravation in the end.

The 1937 may be considered by some as a specialized item, and may take a little time to sell, as this is a high dollar item with a narrower customer base. Other factors may be a slower selling/buying market at the present time.

There are a few things to consider with these notes, as if they are impaired by staining or thinning, or have glue residue on the back, this may reduce the selling price slightly. But yes this is still a tough set to obtain.

The last set to go through auction sold in June 2009 for $12,750 + (buyers’ premium of 15%) + taxes (if applicable).

There are a few ways you can go about selling the notes; if you want to contact me, I should be able to help you out with these methods
1)   Dealer
2)   Auction
3)   Collector

Hope this helps
