Here is the template: Rows A to I, columns 1 to 5. CBN Journey $20s
9720000 9726000 9732000 9738000 9744000
9750000 9756000 9762000 9768000 9774000
9780000 9786000 9792000 9798000 9804000
9810000 9816000 9822000 9828000 9834000
9840000 9846000 9852000 9858000 9864000
9870000 9876000 9882000 9888000 9894000
9900000 9906000 9912000 9918000 9924000
9930000 9936000 9942000 9948000 9954000
9960000 9966000 9972000 9978000 9984000
This sheet range encompasses 270,000 notes.
From the same sheet EZJ inserts that I JUST got:
EZJ9954958 48/11 = H5
EZJ9948958 25/46 = H4
EZJ9942958 43/38 = H3
EZJ9936958 54/12 = H2
EZJ9906958 26/26 = G2
EZJ9876958 18/53 = F2
EZJ9870958 41/30 = F1
EZJ9834958 30/41 = D5
EZJ9828958 53/18 = D4
Problem posed: Does this below described error note fit the pattern?
EYL8634987 is a known error, with a butterfly fold at the bottom left (facing the front), therefore when face down, in the bottom right of the sheet.
What I have found is: CBN $20s are skip numbered by 6000.
6000 per "stack" x 45/sheet x 36 runs = 9,720,000. (All notes leading uptothe insert range).
Inserts -1: ("-1" meaning that it is in the position of the first 270,000 notes below the insert range)
Template: Column 1 done, as well as row A and I (for simplicity).
ie: 9450000 is in position A1, 9456000 is A2....
9450000 9456000 9462000 9468000 9474000
9480000
9510000
9540000 (other positions ommited to save time)
9570000
9600000
9630000
9660000
9690000 9696000 9702000 9708000 9714000
To Note:
9720000 - 9450000 = 270000 - checks out okay :)
9450000 - 270000 = 9180000 (Position A1 Inserts -2)
9180000 - 270000 = 8910000 (Position A1 Inserts -3)
8910000 - 270000 = 8640000 (Position A1 Inserts -4)
9640000 - 270000 = 8370000 (Position A1 Inserts -5)
Template:
8370000 8376000 8382000 8388000 8394000
8400000 8406000 8412000 8418000 8424000

8460000 8466000 8472000 8478000 8484000
8490000 8496000 8502000 8508000 8514000
8520000 8526000 8532000 8538000 8544000
8550000 8556000 8562000 8568000 8574000
8580000 8586000 8592000 8598000 8604000
8610000 8616000 8622000 8628000 8634000
EYL8634987 DOES fit, right where it is supposed to! In position I5. Therefore, 12/54 = I5
I should have the rest of the CND Journey series CBN $20s done this week.

Hudson should receive The Canadian Paper Money Award 2006 .

OUTSTANDING WORK!!! 8-)
Keep it up and all of us won't have any Mysteries of the Universe left to solve! ;D

This sheet range encompasses 270,000 notes.
From the same sheet EZJ inserts that I JUST got:
EZJ9954958 48/11 = H5
EZJ9948958 25/46 = H4
EZJ9942958 43/38 = H3
EZJ9936958 54/12 = H2
EZJ9906958 26/26 = G2
EZJ9876958 18/53 = F2
EZJ9870958 41/30 = F1
EZJ9834958 30/41 = D5
EZJ9828958 53/18 = D4
I can merge this with the information of another brick: EZD, Sept 29th, 2006.
EZD
1950886 53/18 MATCHES to one we know from the above confirmed layout., so we can position this note in its proper coordinate, and map out all the other notes in it's proximity based on this mapping. This note, EZD 1950886 is D4 in the grid. Recall skip numbering by 6000. So we must now adjust the skip number pattern to reflect the EZD numerical range.
Mapping the EZD 54/18 onto the confirmed insert layered sheets gives us this: 1950xxx in D4.
9720000 9726000 9732000 9738000 9744000
9750000 9756000 9762000 9768000 9774000
9780000 9786000 9792000 9798000 9804000
9810000 9816000 9822000 1950xxx 9834000
9840000 9846000 9852000 9858000 9864000
9870000 9876000 9882000 9888000 9894000
9900000 9906000 9912000 9918000 9924000
9930000 9936000 9942000 9948000 9954000
9960000 9966000 9972000 9978000 9984000
So, the new grid looks like this: with EZD1842000 as A1
1842000 1848000 1854000 1860000 1866000
1872000 1878000 1884000 1890000 1896000
1902000 1908000 1914000 1920000 1926000

2082000 2088000 2094000 2100000 2106000
Test 1: Check first number for compliance:
9990000 - 270000 = 9720000 would be Position A1 "Skip 6000 cut group 37" (The actual insert group)
9720000 - 270000 = 9450000. checks out okay! Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 36
9450000 - 270000 = 9180000 (Position A1 Inserts -2) Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 35
9180000 - 270000 = 8910000 (Position A1 Inserts -3) Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 34
8910000 - 270000 = 8640000 (Position A1 Inserts -4) Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 33
9640000 - 270000 = 8370000 (Position A1 Inserts -5)
Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 32
Continuing:
Goes to: amt. Starts at:
8370000 - 270000 = 8100000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 31
8100000 - 270000 = 7830000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 30
7830000 - 270000 = 7560000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 29
7560000 - 270000 = 7290000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 28
7290000 - 270000 = 7020000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 27
7020000 - 270000 = 6750000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 26
6750000 - 270000 = 6480000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 25
6480000 - 270000 = 6210000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 24
6210000 - 270000 = 5940000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 23
5940000 - 270000 = 5670000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 22
5670000 - 270000 = 5400000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 21
5400000 - 270000 = 5130000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 20
5130000 - 270000 = 4860000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 19
4860000 - 270000 = 4590000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 18
4590000 - 270000 = 4320000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 17
4320000 - 270000 = 4050000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 16
4050000 - 270000 = 3780000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 15
3780000 - 270000 = 3510000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 14
3510000 - 270000 = 3240000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 13
3240000 - 270000 = 2970000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 12
2970000 - 270000 = 2700000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 11
2700000 - 270000 = 2430000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 10
2430000 - 270000 = 2160000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 9
2160000 - 270000 = 1890000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 8 --This is NOT in line with the EZD position, so we can infer from this that there was a number skip of some amount of notes. (45/on sheets do not divide evenly into 10 million incidentally.
1890000 - 270000 = 1620000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 7
1620000 - 270000 = 1350000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 6
1350000 - 270000 = 1080000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 5
1080000 - 270000 = 0810000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 4
0810000 - 270000 = 0540000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 3
0540000 - 270000 = 0270000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 2
0270000 - 270000 = 0000000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 1
OKay this really throws everything off, 1842000 is not one of the AI positions, if things are counted upwards, mapping from the original. We do know that they do not print all 10Million less one. Could be variuance in there, so let us look at the EZD's to map it from EZD to EZD.
1) We know that 1950xxx is D4 from the way we discover inserts, and have even mapped a butterfly error to it. Therefore, the rest of teh EZD's listed below will shed light on other positions, in relation to the EZD 1950 note.
Here are a group of EZD's all found in one single brick, Sept 29, 2006 in Edmonton.
1991799 44/34
1999905 49/35
2054495 26/26
2158899 12/54
2086754 35/51
1847790 47/33
1919657 23/17
1999799 49/36
1927731 22/13
2062653 39/20
2038895 29/21
1814754 36/31
1830725 33/47
1806765 52/19
1839949 45/45
1893850 13/22
1957999 30/41
Now, let us map these to the sheet defined by the D4 note EZD 1950886
1842000 1848000 1854000 1860000 1866000
1872000 1878000 1884000 1890000 1896000
1902000 1908000 1914000 1920000 1926000
1932000 1938000 1944000 1950xxx 1956000
1962000 1968000 1974000 1980000 1986000
1992000 1998000 2004000 2010000 2016000
2022000 2028000 2034000 2040000 2046000
2052000 2058000 2064000 2070000 2076000
2082000 2088000 2094000 2100000 2106000
1991799 44/34 - This is position E5 in the grid. Therefore, 44/34 = E5 -- okay this is yeilding some contradictions..... even below, I am mapping different position pairs to the same spot. Hmmm.
1999799 49/36 - This is position G2 in the grid. contradiction.... to the original post.
Other way to look at this, well I know that 12/54 is the butterfly which is position I5. One of the EZD that came in that brick was also 12/54, EZD 2158899. The lowest EZD in the brick was 18067xx, and the highest was this one, giving a spread of 352 thousand, so these notes will not all be on the same sheet mapping.
So starting with this 2158899 note as a basis, and skip counting backwards 6000, gives a new grid like this:
1894000 1900000 1906000 1912000 1918000
1924000 1930000 1936000 1942000 1948000
1954000 1960000 1966000 1972000 1978000
1984000 1990000 1996000 2002000 2008000
2014000 2020000 2026000 2032000 2038000
2044000 2050000 2056000 2062000 2068000
2074000 2080000 2086000 2092000 2098000
2104000 2110000 2116000 2122000 2128000
2134000 2140000 2146000 2152000 2158xxx ==>EZD 2158899
From the notes found in the brick, we can map them out with reasonable certainty:
1991799 44/34 = D2
1999905 49/36 = D3
2054495 26/26 = F2 (contradicts)
2158899 12/54 = I5 Note: There must be variance of 6000 to be considered. However, note that 2160000 - 270000 = 1890000 Position A1 Skip 6000 cut group 8 works perfectly well here. That is to say, Position I5 is 2154000-2159999, and A1 of the next group is 2160000.
2086754 35/51 = G3
1847790 47/33 (on sheet group below this sheet) + 270000 = 2117xxx on this sheet = H3
1919657 23/17 = A5
1927731 22/13 = B2
2062653 39/20 = F4
2038895 29/21 = E5
1814754 36/31 (on sheet group below this sheet) + 270000 = 2084xxx on this sheet = G2
1830725 33/47 (on sheet group below this sheet) + 270000 = 2100xxx " " = G5
1806765 52/19 (on sheet group below this sheet) + 270000 = 2076xxx " " = G1
1839949 45/45 (on sheet group below this sheet) + 270000 = 2109xxx " " = H1
1893850 13/22 (on sheet group below this sheet) Should be I5
1957999 30/41 = C1
Having some contradictions... Must address what positions are relative to one another.

Im gonna throw in the EZI insert information, too see if it jives with the EZJ:
EZI
9984xxx 12/54 = I5 Well, this is Good news already!! (Matches the butterfly!) Neighboring to EZD2152xxx 12/54
9822xxx 16/50 = D3 Neighboring to EZD1941xxx 16/50
9864xxx 49/35 = E5 Neighboring to EZD1992xxx 49/35
9930xxx 32/51 = H1 Neighboring to EZD2080xxx 32/51
9876xxx 18/53 = F2
9852xxx 24/24 = E3 Neighboring to EZD1976xxx 24/24 -- shows up in D4??? AAARRGGH!!
9888xxx 15/37 = F4 Neighboring to EZD2029xxx 15/37
9894xxx 29/21 = F5 Neighboring to EZD2037xxx 29/21
9780xxx 10/14 = C1 Neighboring to EZD1880xxx 10/14
9732xxx 42/28 = A3 Neighboring to EZD1821xxx 42/28
9756xxx 28/42 = B2 Neighboring to EZD1848xxx 28/42
9750
9906xxx 26/26 = G2 Confirmation! Neighboring to EZD2048xxx
From the brick, an exact example was that EZI 9822350 replaced EZD 1941116. Both had same FP/BP, which was 16/50 (C3).
Since inserts found in place of missing notes in this brick all held the same FP/BP, I can reasonable assume that the neighboring notes were the same (above and below) in all cases.
EZD 1941xxx is C3 (variance of 6000, which means all position numbers could be shifted left or right one spot). But, we know the layout of the insert sheet, 9.72 to 9.99. First step, look at the neighboring notes to the inserts. So EZD 1947xxx is going to be in C4, but we don't know for sure what the increment of 6000 fully encompasses.
Map EZD onto the insert layout, and map further EZD's from the brick into place.
9720000 9726000 9732000 9738000 9744000
9750000 9756000 9762000 9768000 9774000
9780000 9786000 1941xxx 9798000 9804000
9810000 9816000 9822000 9828000 9834000
9840000 9846000 9852000 9858000 9864000
9870000 9876000 9882000 9888000 9894000
9900000 9906000 9912000 9918000 9924000
9930000 9936000 9942000 9948000 9954000
9960000 9966000 9972000 9978000 9984000
The first assumption we are SURE of, is that it is skip numbered by 6000. Which means that if we have a number 1941xxx, the last four digits are 0000-5999, 8000-3999, 6000-1999, 4000-9999 is out of the question, because we know the number ends in 1xxx. it is only possible in the first three positions listed. Start with listing number 1, assume that 1941xxx is a range that is 1940000-1946000.
Becomes:
1868000 1874000 1880000 1886000 1892000
1898000 1904000 1910000 1916000 1922000
1928000 1934000 1940xxx 1946000 1952000
1958000 1964000 1970000 1976000 1982000

2108000 2114000 2120000 2126000 2132000
You know what I think I am going to scream.
-
WOW! With all these numbers... better get in KPMG or Ernst & Young accounting firms to reverify this...
Great detective work Hudson. Looks like it paid off... You found the secret recipe to the printing of Canadian Bank Notes! :)
-
Hudson should receive The Canadian Paper Money Award 2006 .
He's got my vote.
My head is still spinning.
-
You would think so eh? (Thanks by the way...) I did find out through all of this that there were some subtle problems.
I am lucky, I have 5 or so recorded bricks of EZD in my notes, so I peeled into those to unlock the secret.
Found:
EZD were skip printed in 8000, whereas the inserts within them, were skip numbered by 6000.
Here is the listing of consecutive plate numbers, skipping by 8000.

NOW, the test is to see if it works out!
-
TEST ONE! Well, there are 45 positions identified!! YES!
8000 x 45 = 360000 notes per super-block, as opposed to the inserts, printed skipped by 6000.
-
TEST TWO:
So starting with this 2158899 note as a basis, and skip counting backwards 6000, gives a new grid like this:
1894000 1900000 1906000 1912000 1918000
1924000 1930000 1936000 1942000 1948000
1954000 1960000 1966000 1972000 1978000
1984000 1990000 1996000 2002000 2008000
2014000 2020000 2026000 2032000 2038000
2044000 2050000 2056000 2062000 2068000
2074000 2080000 2086000 2092000 2098000
2104000 2110000 2116000 2122000 2128000
2134000 2140000 2146000 2152000 2158xxx ==>EZD 2158899
INSTEAD of counting back by 6000, lets count back by 8000.
Recall:
EZI
9960xxx 47/27 = I1 Neighboring to EZD2120xxx 47/27
9750
9906xxx 26/26 = G2 Neighboring to EZD2048xxx
EZJ
EZJ9954958 48/11 = H5
EZJ9948958 25/46 = H4
EZJ9942958 43/38 = H3
EZJ9936958 54/12 = H2
EZJ9906958 26/26 = G2 (confirms)
EZJ9876958 18/53 = F2 (confirms)
EZJ9870958 41/30 = F1
EZJ9834958 30/41 = D5
EZJ9828958 53/18 = D4
So in nice form, we have:
A 3
B 2
C 1
D 3, 4, 5
E 3, 5
F 1, 2, 4, 5
G 2
H 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
I 1, 5
okay so here it goes:
1800000 1808000 1816000 1824000 1832000
1840000 1848000 1856000 1864000 1872000
1880000 1888000 1896000 1904000 1912000
1920000 1928000 1936000 1944000 1952000
1960000 1968000 1976000 1984000 1992000
2000000 2008000 2016000 2024000 2032000
2040000 2048000 2056000 2064000 2072000
2080000 2088000 2096000 2104000 2112000
2120000 2128000 2136000 2144000 2152000 --> based on two posts earlier with matching FP/BP to butterfly note: I5 is then 2152000 to 2159999.
So, as a FINAL conclusion! This puts the positions as (FPN/BPN):
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
A | 52/19 | 36/31 | 42/28 | 33/47 | 45/45 |
B | 47/33 | 28/42 | 31/36 | 19/52 | 50/16 |
C | 10/14 | 13/22 | 17/23 | 40/40 | 23/17 |
D | 22/13 | 14/10 | 16/50 | 53/18 | 30/41 |
E | 35/49 | 34/44 | 24/24 | 44/34 | 49/35 |
F | ??/?? | 18/53 | 51/32 | 15/37 | 29/21 |
G | 20/39 | 26/26 | 39/20 | 21/29 | ??/?? |
H | 32/51 | 54/12 | 43/38 | 25/46 | 48/11 |
I | ??/?? | ??/?? | 46/25 | ??/?? | 12/54 |
Now, the only ones we are missing from the EZD enquiry are F1, G5, I1, I3, and I4.
We can now merge over some of the other placement information based on the EZI and EZJ inserts, to put in the information of F1 (the remaining four are left unknown at this point).
So, to add:
F1= 41/30.
Viola! I know it is not TOTALLY complete, but as Meatloaf said, 40 out of 45 ain't bad.
AND AND AND!!! Before I had done a test with EZD 1950886 mapped to D4, well that works now too!! WOO HOO!
Man I feel like I just solved a major world mystery!!
-
Did someone say... Da Vinci code solved?!!!!! Hudson, this is amazing. He has my vote too.
-
Hudson, this is amazing. He has my vote too
:o
I Second that one... Keep up the OUTSTANDING work! ;)
-
F1: 41/30
I2: 11/48
These are best guesses, but I expect that they will be confirmed.
PS: This means 27 superblocks of 8000 45/on sheets, (27*8000*45 = 9,720,000) plus one superblock of 6000 45/on sheets (1*6000*45 = 270,000). (9,720,000+270,000 = 9,990,000)
-

Yes, that is absolutley correct. :)

I have added the CBN $20s format to my sheet layout tool on my website.
Note: EYN was a changeover prefix. Thus, they started the 2005 notes with 5175000 in position A1.
When using my sheet layout tool for an EYN-05 note, subtract 5175000 from the serial number and you will get the correct position.

FOund 9999270 EZI, 11/48 = FP/BP
-
Found 9999270 EZI, 11/48 = FP/BP
Just had confirmation of
EZI 9999894 being FP 54, BP 12
So obviously we can see some sort of skip numbering adjustment for the higher end of notes.
If anyone else has ultra high notes, please PM me with the FP/BP.
Thank you
-
F1: 41/30
I2: 11/48
Brent, I am confirming your suspicion of I2 = 11/48
EZM 9695xxx 11/48 fits right into I2. I had a pile of bricks that were high EZM. Skipped by 8000. Implying no inserts in High EZM based onskip numbering, but moreso, thefact that I just had many solid bricks of them.
F1= 41/30 placed by the EZJ mapping checks out good.
EZM 9687xxx 27/27 Fits perfectly as I1
EZM 9639xxx 37/15 Fits perfectly at at G5
Therefore, with the new findings in boldface,
So, as a FINAL conclusion!
F | 41/30 | 18/53 | 51/32 | 15/37 | 29/21 |
G | 20/39 | 26/26 | 39/20 | 21/29 | 37/15 |
H | 32/51 | 54/12 | 43/38 | 25/46 | 48/11 |
I | 27/27 | 11/48 | 46/25 | ??/?? | 12/54 |
And to tidy it up, there in one position empty.
By process of elimination, the missing position number is
38/43, which is position I4.
THERE, all done, in a neat little package!
No more boring posts in this CBN thread! Yay!
Huds :)
