What is the value, or better, what would you pay for the following...

1971 $10's

-different prefixes one a 2 letter lawson bouey, and the other a three letter crow bouey (both reg issue) in GUNC

-with the same lowish serial number of 617 on both notes...

Here are the cat values for the two notes assuming they are not any special prefix letters

L/B cat value for gem $36
C/B cat value for gem $40

Since Im not in the market for any I'd pay $10 each of course

low serial numbers 100-999 are cat for $90

I don't think there's a strong demand for low number notes over 100.  The Bank of Canada matching sets sold off in 1999 ruined the appetite of many collectors by drastically increasing the supply side.  So I see the catalogue value of $90 apiece as higher than you can realistically expect unless these really are Gem notes.  Most notes described as Gem simple are not, and that goes for both raw and TPG notes.  As a set, there might be a slight premium due to the novelty of matching low numbers, but only if you find the right buyer.  I wouldn't pay more than $100 for the set.

Ahh, yes, you're one of those bidders that drops out when the bidding goes over face value.  Good luck with that.
