Title: Grade Opinions
Post by: Hounddog on November 29, 2015, 11:46:56 am
I came across this note on the internet and for me I just can't see the assigned grade.
I thought I'd show it here and see what grade you'd assign to it first without any influence from knowing the TPG grade.
I'll reveal the grade later if that's OK.

Near impossible to assess a TPG note accurately by this method but maybe EF?

I agree with "alvin" -it's a tough call to assign a grade without inspecting the note- but from what I can see- I would be hard-pressed to give it more than F15-19.  I would be surprised if it made it to VF 20.

I'd say fine.

I think the issue here may be, "is dirt the same as wear?".  Certainly the dirt quite substantially reduces eye appeal and therefore market value, but unless one is going to net grade, it doesn't alter the technical grade.  I can only see the one corner crease, and suggestions of other little margin folds, but as Alvin says it's hard to decide from these low-res. pictures.  Best case scenario, therefore - EF with impairment, ie. dirt.

Thanks guys I know it's hard but these are the photos from the listing.
I'm surprised that even with these photo's Bob and alvin5454 got it right, congrats.
This just goes to show that not all EF-45 graded notes are the same, there're good ones and then one's like this one.
I definitely did not like the one corner on the back of the note.

They must have graded that note on a Friday afternoon or on Monday morning.    ;)

It looks like the $5 note could have been placed in some sort of frame, as I can make out 3 out of the 4 corners had some sort of staining.
