I heart that there was a $20 bill in the news at City tv. Can anyone give me an update on what was so great about this bill. They called it the "Holy Grail of $20 bills ". I saw it and it was a journey note. thanks
cheers

More Bang For Your Buck: Misprinted 20's Worth More
Monday July 9, 2007
CityNews.ca Staff
About 45 misprinted $20 bills are worth more than face value after the Bank of Canada realized its error on Monday. Apparently the bills were put into the security printer sytem upside-down, leaving the markings intact but on the reverse side. Coin collectors say the value could be worth exponentially more since they are so rare.
Tune in for Money Specialist Richard Madan's story about these bizarre bills on CityNews at 6 and what to do if you should somehow find yourself in possession of one of these rarities.
-
I hope some arrive into Vancouver. If it's only like 45 of them, then there's a thin chance we'll get any.
I guess I'm going to bribe some BoC workers to make errors on purpose just for me. ;D

Make some for me 2 ;)
-
So....
Did the error get released or were they caught before hand...
Why did the BoC Release this information??? Why did it come public knowledge???
This is VERY unusual for the BoC???? ???
-
send some to Calgary please!

Maybe these misprinted 20s were discovered about 2 weeks ago: on June 22nd the BofC posted a notice on its website that it is looking to hire a new Governor. I know I've got some error notes that would make the BofC brass blush furiously. In case anyone here wants to apply for the job, the link is below:
http://www.bank-banque-canada.ca/en/notices_fmd/2007/governor07.html
Too bad I don't qualify; it would be cool to be able to validate my own signature by pulling a $20 bill out of my wallet and saying "look, compare my signature to this one here" ;D
-
Here is the number from the error bank note on the news, and according to the news, the BofC has confirmed it is real error. So be on the lookout.

So being it is 45 Notes I am going to assume it was a sheet.
Hudson, if you would like to do the math, we can determine all the serial numbers on that sheet. ;)
-
Thanks for posting the link .... the last part of the video takes place at Arcade Coins on Yonge St. in downtown Toronto.

We've seen greater note disasters dan dis.
Maybe the BoC Didn't release dis information on thier own, but after da news broke from a knowledgable collector getting one of dese notes from public.
For now, my bank just called and has a brick of $20 for me (EZM7.45?) I'll let you mons know first hand.

Brown is the proud owner of one of 45 twenty dollar bills that were printed backwards recently.
Has there actually been confirmation that one 1 sheet was actually printed or could there me more ???
-
Good point,
There COULD be more then 1 sheet. It is assumed there is only one and typical BoC would say a SINGLE sheet was fed backwards... How would THEY know if only 1 was like that??? ::)
Well Gentlemen!!!
Let the Hunt Begin!!! 8)

I agree. I've seen clips of how the notes are cut. The machine can only cut 1 sheet at once, but they have a feeder where more uncut sheets are awaiting the cutting process. There is a thin chance that only one sheet was backwards.
If that's the case, then some untrustworthy BoC worker did it on purpose.

Nope, not dis one mon. My first $20 brick is EZS but it's mixed up so I'll list my results on da EZS High/Low. No Radars like 8666668, no Repeaters, no Inserts, and no errors but a handful of notes 8666066 and 8666006 so they'll go to Raven. Da Hunt has already started, I'm expecting another $20 brick next week.

Yes, welcome to the world of mixed bricks.
We had this issue with 2002 $5 Notes after HOH. Sometimes you would not get any Radars and once in awhile there would be 6 of them in 1 brick. ???
Documenting these bricks is also VERY time consuming. ;)

Guys,
I dont collect bills. However, I know this bill has been out for a few months. I got one during Hockey season. I was going to sell it to the coin dealer in Ottawa but I never made it in.

Hey Andy, Do you have a scan of your note, and are you looking to get ride of the note of yours?

Do you still have the note? Can you post a scan of it??
Thanks Arthur

I just received a phone call from my local coin/banknote dealer. One of these notes just walked in his front door. I have not seen the note, or any of them for that matter. I am forwarding his question to the forum: What are these notes worth??
I was told the owner of the note has had it in his possession for 6 months or so.

Right now we only know the serial # of the note in the news, (if you have a serial please do post it). We cannot determine if this is a sheet error, or multiple sheet error. If a price is established, then this would have to reflect an Unc note, and then the condition of the note would determine the sale value of the note for sale.
It is important to realize that this error note has had allot of attention, and thus creating a false market demand. What I mean, people might be thinking it is worth more then it really is, and yes I know, it is worth the price someone will pay for it, but would the seller pay you that amount for the same item. The market can temporally over-inflate the price creating a false value for the note, and then crashing. This is the case of jumping on the bandwagon for the hot stock.
So lets make-up a price, $20 x 1000%(great ROI) = $220 for UNC
For one thing, and this is my option, this is not the Holy Grail of bank notes as stated in the news story. I am sure we can all think of a rarer note.
That's my two cents

I agree with you 100% J. There are a lot more interesting notes that one could buy for what some people THINK ??? this note is actually worth.

My 2.2 cents ;D

One note with this error has the serial # EZM7219230
-
Sorry, but I do not have the serial number of the note in question. I was told it was the same as the one on tv with the exception of one number.
I agree, this is not that spectacular an error.

Nice to see another reporter thinks notes are made at the mint...
-
This is incredibly old and has been discussed previously on these forums.
-
Is this security error in Charlton Book? I have not seen this error before. How much is it worth for this kind of error?

Thanks Elwoodbluesca for the link - I was looking for it earlier but couldn't find it, possibly because I wasn't looking in the right spot.
I've moved the original thread to the Error Notes forum, and merged it with the new thread.
