Title: What is half a note worth?
Post by: only4teeth on December 15, 2011, 09:25:51 am
Sorry for a stupid question, but what is one half of a note worth? The reason I ask is that I have a friend who has several notes... even a $1000.00 note but just half.. can these be redeemed anywhere? Do they have any value at all?

I think you need to have the entire note, to redeem it at the note at a bank.

You can send what you have to the Bank of Canada and they will reimburse you for whatever value your note portions they determine they're worth. See here: http://www.bankofcanada.ca/banknotes/contaminated-and-mutilated-bank-notes/

The banks will accept all half bills for their face value.

Example half of a $5 bill will be worth $2.50.  The only stipulation is that it MUST contain the entire serial number.
