greetings all! i have a 1902 four dollar note in very good to fine condition. it is the first printing with courtney signature. the 1911 re issue seems to be more common. does anyone know how many of the first issue are estimated to exist and its value? thanks in advance

The first printing of Courtney signature occured on the 1900 4$ issue. There were only 4 4$ notes issued. 1882, 1900, 1902 with Courtney Signature (Numeral 4 at top) and 1902 with Boville signature (word FOUR at top)-Final $4 issue. There were no 1911 $4 notes.
Your 1902 note is quite rare and is worth $6,000 in VF
in 2009 there had only been 63 of these notes recorded to that date with EF being the highest grade in any private collection.
Hope this helps.

The 1902 Courtney is worth $2,000 in fine and $3,350 in VF.
The Boville is worth $800 in fine and $1,450 in very fine.

Gary_T, the prices you listed correspond to VG and F according to the latest charlton.
Your note in VG to F grade is priced as listed above $2,000-3,350. You are very lucky to be an owner of such a beautiful $4 note, a denomination that most collectors can only dream of having! :(

OOPS, Sorry about that. Yes prices are for VG and Fine as requested.
