Title: Birds $10
Post by: zero on February 17, 2013, 08:46:11 pm
Hi I am from the UK, and going to Canada for a holiday soon. I bought some dollars and one of the $10 bills I received was a Birds series, serial ADF0001471

I'm new to all this, so I guess the condition is somewhere around F or VF, there is a bit of writing on it.

If it isn't worth more than $10, can I just spend it anywhere, will shops take it? Obviously I can't deposit it into a bank.

Also I know this is a notes forum, but would appreciate if anyone can tell me whether a 2002 50c and rusted 1943/1951 dodecagonal nickels are worth anything too..

Thanks.

Neither the note nor the coins have any substantial numismatic premium but should be "spendable" without any problems in Canada.

The 2002 50¢ is not worth anything in fact, it was the 50 Cent piece with the highest mintage ever. This denomination was discontinued in 2002 as it was a denomination that was rarely used. The 1943 5¢ is a very unique nickel as it was the second of only two nickels (the first being in 1942) minted during world war 2 that were made out of copper (same color as the cent). Both 1943 and 1951 5 cents are worth about the same -a few bucks in circulated condition. They are both fairly common.

OK thanks, will see if I come across any dealers who will take the nickels for a few $.
