Post by: Dean on February 07, 2014, 07:12:59 am
I got this Journey $5 in change yesterday.  Should I keep it?

Hi Dean,

Good eye.  I'd say it would command a small premium, since it is not a major error.  Maybe the note could sell for $10-$15.

I have examined thousands of new fives and found a couple like yours with the HPR prefix.  They are a small offset error... but I like them....

I'll keep this note and since it's only VG, it didn't cost me a cent more than $5!  :)

Maybe I'll find another one, but now that paper money is being phased out, it is unlikely...

found some of these about 2 years ago when I was searching new bundles...I also kept some but doubt they will be worth too much

I have been fascinated by the manner in which these offsets happen. In going through a whole bunch of UNC notes I was able to find an offsetter and an offsettee - side by side they look like the image below. Notice how the intgalio from the offsetter is peeled off and transferred to the ofsettee.

I have held on to both the notes. Nice pair
