Title: 1951 Dime - Opinions: Error and/or Simply Wear?
Post by: Breanna72 on January 09, 2025, 05:39:30 pm
Hello Coin Aficionados!

Something strikes me as odd-ish about the wear on this coin as it exists and doesn't exist in areas that you think it would and wouldn't.  For example the coin edge, date, and some lettering is still very prominent when features with lower profile are very well worn.  Seems odd to me.  I'm wondering if this coin may have started out as some sort of error perhaps and then got wear in circulation?  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  (Sorry about the photo quality but these are all I have access to.)

Cheers, Breanna

Without physically seeing it, looks like normal heavy circulation wear. I have many 10 and 25 cent pieces from the 60's and older with similar wear.

Because silver is such a soft metal, it's normal for these coins to appear extremely worn.  In that condition, you'd get melt value for it.  There is no minting error on the coin.
