Did anyone hear that Trump has ordered the US mint to stop minting the US penny?

I will gladly forfeit the penny if Congress focuses on some 'more important' things. LOL  (Sorry Dean!!) First Trump State of the Union Address tonight at 9 p.m. streaming for free on Youtube PBS channel.

I heard it on the news that Trump has directed the US Treasury to stop minting the penny. Considering a penny cost 3.8 cents to make. I’ll understand why they are discontinuing it and not a lot of people are spending the penny. If I lived in the US I’ll probably use the penny in my everyday transactions.

I wonder if the penny were to be phased out by the US government. Will they be hoarded like crazy just like in Canada?

D.T. thinks he has the final say because he is the President, when really he doesn't have the final say - the U.S. Congress does.
