Title: A bundle of $5 banknotes
Post by: whitenite on March 26, 2025, 08:53:11 pm
Yesterday, I went to my home branch in the Ottawa Valley and I got this bundle of $5 banknotes.

Just imagine to find a solid number banknote, in 60 years of collecting and buying bundles and going through millions of banknotes, I got this one.

Furthermore, I found a HBG Carney in the same bundle, the stars are aligned.

I am so lucky to find this in the wild with another banknote as well.

Enjoy the picture.

Congratulations on the find Whitenite! That is a 1 in 38 million chance of finding a solid serial number for $5 bill. I've been searching notes for 3 years and I haven't found a solid or low number serial. I wonder when I will hit the jackpot like you did when you found the solid serial number.

Also I noticed you haven't enter the solid serial number and the M-C $5 into the SNDB. Is it possible to enter it in the SNDB? (Im a huge SNDB fan)

Take a look at the response from the database!

Congrats @whitenite!
That is a jaw-dropping find.

I actually got this Journey solid 8 $5.00 Journey note from my Lotto ticket change (about 2008-2010 I believe). The irony is that I was recycling FIVES (trying to find an APM $5 short prefix) but landed this AAK8888888 when asking for change (& I got it only b/c I forced the issue of getting a FIVE back). It can happen folks :D:

@walktothewater

Fantastic find for a Journey $5 banknote, I noticed that the right side serial number has a slightly dropped eight with heavy ink. I am betting that the next sheet or two would have errors or the numbering counter re-centered to avoid rejections or errors.

You should get it graded and keep it for a conversation piece.

Keep searching as you never know what you can find!!!

Thanks @Breanna72, @Mike67 & @Whitenite
It's definitely a nice conversation piece although most of my family avoid the topic of banknotes  :D
The funny thing is it actually stopped my searching for a while (since I got it from change & I wasn't pulling anything worthwhile from my recycling searches of thousands of notes). The note is well circulated so it had met many people's eyes & was used extensively before I caught it by chance.  It taught me a hard lesson: people don't check their notes & that the whole finding a good thing is such a long shot that it can happen anyhow & any way (like through searching or just from change). Use cash & you may just find something. It's crazy really... but that's what I got out of plucking that from my lotto change.
(sorry Whitenite - didn't mean to hijack your thread)

Your solid serial looks like a great candidate for certification (its in a lot better shape than mine).

Thanks Walktothewater for your post!!

I am very pleased to see that this thread is being used as a discussion for a number of interesting topics including the find of the solid number $5 banknote.  This is being a community of like minded collectors and it is really encouraging to see that the search of the banknote is elusive and rewarding.  More importantly, it could restart others to keep the search going.

This banknote will be graded and I will post an image of the graded banknote in nearby future to continue this conversation.

Many thanks to all!  Whitenite
