Title: Bank of Canada 1937 Scarce prefixes

Hey Everyone

I was looking trough my 18th edition paper money book and was wondering why the scarcer prefixes for the 1937 series are priced so low? Most of these have even less production than the Osborne series.  I tried bidding on a few and some I was able to get fairly cheap and others I paid a %60 premium. Any information that you could provide would be excellent.

The 18th edition was the first edition to add some prefix differentiation to the price guide for the '37 series, so it may take a few editions for the pricing panel to get a real handle on what these notes sell for in the real market.  As discussed many times in the past the pricing panel must be careful.  The fact that you and I may pay a 60% premium for a G-T $10 Z/D because we are anxiously trying to fill a hole in our collection, does not mean the catalogue price is unjustifiably low.  One we have purchased the notes for our collection, and if the niche is small, then there may not be a significant demand in the market to keep the price at that level.

There are many more collectors who collect 1937 notes by signature than by prefix.  With higher demand comes higher prices, thus the comparatively more expensive Osbornes.  That said, it is certainly possible that some like the $10 Z/D Gordon-Towers are undervalued - with so few around, it wouldn't take many eager prefix specialists to drive up the price.

speaking of the G - T Z/D prefix is there a list of known Z/D's in existance I have only ever seen 2 of them and another thing that makes it rare in my eyes when I showed my note to Olmstead he had to look the note up in the guide sounded like he had never heard of the before P.S. mine is in VG-F shape and I got it from a guy who did not know what it was so I got it for 20 bucks
