Title: Low numbered notes
Post by: JB-2007 on May 11, 2006, 10:02:15 pm
We all know that notes numbered 1000 are considered low numbered notes. Do you think the same applies to changeover notes.
Lets say i had for example i found the note AWM2000443 would this still be considered a low numbered note knowing that the first AWM Knight-Dodge is AWM2000000 ? Should it command a certain premium?

I think so, at least from my experience. Many collectors that I know try to purchase notes close to any type of changeover. For instance, the 1989 $10 BEF signature changeover occurred at 9.6M and I've seen a collector choose the a note with the serial number BEF 94***** opposed to a note in the 1M range (the condition and price was the same for both notes). Though in this case the collector did not overpay and would not have overpay on the book value- its just a nicer note to have since it is closer to the changeover. Whereas a premium would be, as you stated, for notes 0-999 after a changeover of any type. Personally, I had a $5 insert HOH 9200005 (insert range begun at 9.2M) - I must also add that I did not want to sell the note - and someone offered me a ridiculous price which I could not refuse. I would definitely pay more for a note from 0-1000 on a year changeover, signature changeover or even a beginning of a insert range. It just makes the note that much more appealing and rare.

Say JB-2006 do you have any notes like that?

I have a few notes that have low numbers but none are in great condition. The lowest number i have is FDV0000492.
As for changeover notes, i only have one. BER8600775. I purchased this note from hudsonAb a few months ago specifically for that low number. Both of these notes have little premium because they have both been well circulated still nice notes to have in my collection.  ;)

Those are nice notes, especially the BER note. The lowest number I had was an HON 0000501 in UNC condition and now is happily nestled in walktothewater collection :) - A safe and happy home I hope. Whereas the lowest insert note I had was the HOH note I mentioned in my previous post. I've seen some low number year/signature changeover notes at some shows but not many within a 1000 range of the changeover point. The nicest notes I have seen, condition and otherwise, were on this very site.

here is the link of these beautiful notes, prepare to drool my fellow collectors:

Would any of you gentlemen consider selling?   ;)

I found in circulation FEP0000459, very near from the changeover type for the 10s...(already reported elsewhere...).

I have a set of notes that are both the 42nd notes printed signed by Bonin/ Theissen.

The first is 1986 $2 number EGR2000041 and BRX3440041. The first being the regular issue and the second being the replacement issue.

I also have pictured in the scan EGR2000003 being the 4th note printed with Bonin/Theissen. The number EGR2000000 is in the currency museum.
