I was browsing all the bird series and found this super super rare
1986 $5 BC-56c Bonin -Thiessen HNB7917551 PMG Gem UNC-65EPQ.
I CAN NOT believe my eyes. Don't we all wish to have this note.... sold at $11,000.00
http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300209003266 (http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300209003266)
Can someone explain to my why this note is priced at such an outrageous $$$$ value? ??? ??? ???
I checked in Charlton and found out there are two s/n (-7917551*- & -9248784*-) and the quantity is unknown.
I also noticed the * denoted as low and high number.
WOW!!! Are any other notes with this same rarity?
Thanks,
Jarod

Greetings to All.
I owned this note and sold it to a paper money collector in Vancouver last year. This note had been graded by CCGS when I purchased it and it was graded, UNC 62. There was a paper clip mark evident in the fibres and subsequently could only be graded at UNC 62.
With this said it appears that the note was sent to the PMG laboratory where a GEM UNC 65EPQ was conjured up so that unsuspecting paper money collectors could be duped into spending small fortunes. :'(
It is time to get out of the hobby.
Regards,

Just for the record,as stated in a past CPMF post,I sold this note as CCGS 62 to a collector/dealer.The poster above is well known to me, he soured on the hobby for reasons that may be justified, based on his experiences.
I have bought back many of the notes he purchased from me at much higher prices than he paid.
I do hope he was not suggesting I engaged in something nefarious with this note.

Well, nevertheless, the note in itself in any condition is rare, and each grading company has their own grading opinions.
It wasn't like there was a frenzy to buy this note, ie. different multiple bidders. It was just 'one' buyer at $11,000+ the juice...

This note did not sell at the Auction. If you look at the price realized list, this note/lot is not mentioned, (no record of this note being sold at the public auction). The one bid on ebay would be the opening bid for the item, not actually a real bid.
So the note may still available, or it might have sold in a private transaction outside of the auction sale.
