Title: Offset Print? $20

I received a bill at work the other day which I decided to buy from the till and bring home because it sure looked like it was worth more than $20.  Somebody in another forum elsewhere told me that it was called an "offset" print, or something like that.  I'd grade it in VF condition, but I really don't know for sure.

What do you figure this bill to be worth?  I was told $100 for it's current condition....  I'm hoping more!

Do you have a scan of the entire note? The value is based on the percentage of the note that is offset and how strong it is.

Photoshop won't let me scan that much of a bill.  It gets angry you see.  The offset is pretty strong and goes to the bar separating the serial numbers, and is diagonal from there to about 3cm to the right of the $20 at the top of the note.  Here is the scan of that area.

I'd say it is offset 45% and yes it is very strong. I would think $100 is quite close to value maybe a little more but there are many others on this forum with more knowledge in this area than me.

The reason photoshop gets angry is there is a anti-counterfeiting deterent in the software, the five circle pattern just to the left of the righthand side serial number when detected stops the scanning process.
  I was also wondering if the last three digits in the serial number are 999?

No, thats just the way my scan makes it look.. Full serial number is AZI9991767  I wish this was also a radar note, but alas, it is not.

I do have a small collection of RADAR notes.  7688867, 8152518, 7244427, 5592955 all EF - VF condition, I suppose.

If I look to the partial scan of the lower middle part of the note, we can see the last two digits of the left side serial number and it's read ****99.  How can the number be 9991767?  I can't figure how a scan could make a "7" look as a "9"... :-/

Very strange to know that there is a forum where you can't post a full serial number... I understand that you erased the "1797" digits?

Nice note I think that is about right for the note $100 in the grade... Nice find.

This is probably a stupid question but when you talk about off set is that where the security bars or lines go down the banknote?  Is this where they appear over to the right of the number 2 in 20?

Well there is a perfect explanation on page 369 if you have a Charlton catalogue.

It is the impression in whole or in part being offset to the wrong side of the note.

This is a scan of my $5 note that is offset 100 % it looks darker in person.

That would likely be the "Where's Willy" forums (http://forums.whereswilly.com/forumdisplay.php?f=14).  Posting of full serial numbers is not permitted in order to prevent other people from making false entries in the tracking database.

I notice that the image of the $5 note shows the offset as being printed out of alignment with the front of the note.  My offset print has the offset in perfect alignment.  Does that make it any more or less valuable?   I can backlight the note on either side and can't see the offset it's so perfectly aligned.  

Another question:  with this note being offset, does that mean that other notes from the sheet it was cut from are likely offset prints, too?
